Caulk gaps between the wire or pipe and the guard. Install cones or discs on suspended cables, ropes, augers, or pipes (Figure 4). Use shields or wire guards made of ¼-inch wire mesh to exclude rodents from the interior of feed augers, fan housings, and similar openings.
Other options are to get steel wool and wrap around the cables. Rodents can't chew through it so that often will deter them. Some other things I've heard of is peppermint oil. If you go the peppermint oil method be very easy on it. The stuff is very powerful.
