put the gripper down with gripfil then stretch the carpet on to it, if any of the gripper pins stick through your carpet just hammer them down. Fit your trim, job done.
For patching the torn carpet over the tack strip, I'd recommend a combination of methods. First, cut away the damaged part and hammer down the tacks on that part to ensure a solid base. Then, use carpet tape to hold the patch in place, but make sure to apply it firmly so it doesn't come loose over time.
Ideally thicker carpet or short pin grippers, but a cheat is to place a 4 inch brick bolster on the gripper and tap the pins down using a hammer, repeat on all grippers. Problem is a lot of carpet stores don't supply short pinned grippers for thinner carpets because it's more expensive than standard grippers.
Nail or stick them down
This is simple. If you've used nail down grippers, just hammer the nails into the floor. If you've used stick down grippers, you will need to spread some adhesive onto the floor facing side, stick it to the floor and let it dry.
The carpet wasn't installed properly
If the carpet was not initially installed correctly, it may not grip onto the tack rods securely. This could be due to improper stretching, inadequate tucking or using the wrong type of gripper rods for the carpet (explained in more detail below).
When laying a new carpet, gripper rods are vital for a snug and secure fit. While you might be tempted to reuse old grippers, we recommend changing them with every new carpet, as they can lose their effectiveness over time. TOP TIP: Even if gripper rods look in good condition, they might not provide the best grip.
The adhesive used in the manufacture of Rug Gripper is water-based, which makes it safe for use on all types of flooring.
To fix a carpet coming up at the edges, apply carpet adhesive or double-sided carpet tape beneath the loose area. Press firmly to secure it in place. If the issue persists or the carpet is fraying, professional stretching or repair may be needed.
Using a carpet rake or a carpet brush (pictured above) on a regular basis keeps your carpet fibers from matting down. Over time, regular carpet grooming can delay or even prevent traffic patterns and carpet wear. Carpet grooming is done by running the carpet brush or rake over your carpet fibers with a bit of pressure.
Without them, a carpet installation can look poor in some cases; not using carpet grippers makes a carpet almost unusable! Without grippers holding the carpet in place, you can expect the carpet to be wrinkled and look tatty.
Tack strips around the walls need to be left down also. Do not remove these unless they have pet damage to them, as well. These can be reused and if any parts need to be replaced, the installer will do so.
Assess the grippers: if you're installing new carpet and the gripper rods are in good condition, you might save time and effort by leaving them in place. However, if they're damaged, old or you're switching to laminate or LVT, they'll need to go.
After stretching the carpet with the knee kicker, use the floor chisel and hammer to press the carpet into the gap between the tread and the riser. Make sure the carpet is firmly gripped by the tackless strip. Use the pneumatic stapler to secure the carpet to the tread, placing staples every few inches along the edge.
Hi the issue isn't to do with the quality of carpet. It's all about the gripper rods used and a suitable underlay to match the gripper rods and the carpets. Most cases we use a medium pin gripper where the gripper pins are approx 5mm long.
A: Yes, the Gorilla Glue should work for adhering the carpet back to the floor.
Glued carpet is good for larger surfaces
Carpet can be glued onto all types of floor so long as you have the right glue and primer (if necessary). This practice is mostly reserved for home owners, as removing the glue in the event of later renovation work can be tedious and may leave marks.
Shampoo The Carpet
A glued-down carpet with unsightly dark stains that have set into the highly-traffic areas can be a real challenge to completely remove. For a situation like this, you need to use a commercial-grade pH seven shampoo to truly affect the discoloration.
