To fix sleepers to concrete, choose between heavy-duty masonry screws, resin-bonded threaded rods, or metal brackets. Because wood and concrete hold moisture, always place a damp-proof membrane (DPM) or heavy-duty plastic strip between them to prevent wood rot.
Use a Damp-Proof Membrane
If elevating the sleepers isn't an option, a damp-proof membrane (DPM) is another effective solution. Simply wrap the part of the sleeper that will be in contact with the ground with the DPM. This creates a barrier between the wood and the moisture in the soil, preventing rot.
