You can press the Test/Silence button to silence the alarm. For Smoke alarms, the ADT Base LED ring blinks red and the number pad disappears.
Most systems will begin beeping or chirping as a result of a total power outage or failure to recharge the system backup battery. For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
As far as technical issues go — assuming your wiring isn't to blame — there are three main categories to troubleshoot when your ADT home alarm or smoke detectors start crying wolf: motion sensor issues, door or window (entryway) sensor issues, and glass-break sensor issues.
To get your smoke alarm to stop chirping if you've already changed the battery, first try draining any residual charge by holding the test button down for 15 seconds. If this doesn't solve the problem, clean the unit. A blast of compressed air will often remove the dust particles that are causing the beeps.
Remove the alarm from its mounting base. Press and release the reset button twice. Press and hold the button for 5 seconds until the red LED starts blinking quickly.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors need to be replaced about every 10 years. Whether you have a wired or a wireless system, replacing individual units as they expire is worth what may feel like an unnecessary cost. Just remember that doing so is an investment in the safety of your family and your home.
You can turn off a fire alarm by pressing its silencing button.
Does ADT equipment work if I cancel the service? You must have an active monitoring subscription with ADT to use the equipment that it provides. Otherwise, you miss out on most of the functionality.
Accidental alarms
If an alarm is accidentally triggered, cancel the alarm with your Base, ADT keypad or the ADT+ app. If you are unable to cancel the alarm in time, keep your phone line free so the ADT Monitoring Centers can reach you.
Smoke Alarm
ADT has been contacted. Press the recessed test switch to silence the smoke detector sounder for 5 minutes. If necessary, silence the alarm keypad. Remove the source of the smoke, if it can be done safely.
For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
Stopping a smoke alarm from beeping is often simple. Get a step ladder and carefully reach for the alarm. Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise.
Electrical Issues: Faulty wiring or low battery voltage can make your smoke detector act erratically. Ensure you change the batteries as recommended by the manufacturer, typically every six months. If you have hardwired detectors, schedule regular maintenance to check for any electrical issues.
NOTE: You can also disarm your system altogether, by pressing OFF and then entering your User Code. Disarming your system will turn off any alarm you have caused. NOTE: The Exit delay and Entry delay are designed to give you enough time to leave or enter your home without setting off a false alarm.
