Cut the power to your home at the circuit breaker. Then, twist the smoke detector counterclockwise to remove it from the mounting. Pull out the wire harness and unhook the wires.
Turn off the circuit breaker for your smoke alarms. If your smoke alarms don't have battery backup, doing that will turn all of them off. If your smoke alarms have battery backup, go to the faulty smoke alarm, twist off the cover. Once the wires are exposed, carefully disconnect the smoke alarm.
Remove the alarm from the trim ring by rotating the alarm counter-clockwise, in the direction of the OFF arrow on the cover. Disconnect the AC power harness by squeezing the locking arms on the sides of the quick connector while pulling the connector away from the bottom of the alarm.
Press and hold the Test button until all the power is dissipated from the detector. It should stop beeping then.
The one I want to permanently disconnect is too high. You can do that, but it may be unwise, if not also illegal. As a general rule, contractors install only the smoke alarms or detectors required by code, so removal of any of them would likely be a violation of that code.
To get your smoke alarm to stop chirping if you've already changed the battery, first try draining any residual charge by holding the test button down for 15 seconds. If this doesn't solve the problem, clean the unit. A blast of compressed air will often remove the dust particles that are causing the beeps.
If so, the battery releases more power, which increases resistance in the unit, which is further increased by drops in room temperature at night. Thus, you hear the low battery chirp. Once your home starts warming up in the morning, the noise might stop.
Can I install a hardwired smoke detector myself? While it is technically possible, it is not recommended. Working with your home's electrical system can be dangerous and complex, best left to a qualified electrician.
IMPORTANT: Deactivation of the alarm is permanent. Once the alarm has been deactivated, it cannot be reactivated or mounted back onto the mounting plate and will no longer detect smoke or carbon monoxide.
First, try the reset button on each smoke alarm. If that doesn't work, flip the circuit breaker off and on. If that fails, you may have to disconnect the smoke alarms and remove the backup batteries inside them one by one. (The batteries are there to protect you during a power outage.)
For hardwired smoke detectors, random beeping may result from electrical interference, loose connections, or power fluctuations. Wireless devices, such as Wi-Fi routers or baby monitors, can also disrupt the detector's signal, causing unexpected beeping.
Break through label with a screwdriver. Turn the screw to the “OFF” location. This will deactivate the alarm, stop the low battery chirp and render the alarm safe for disposal by draining the battery. NOTE: Turning off the alarm is permanent.

Are fire alarms connected to the fire department? Fire alarms can be connected to the fire department through fire alarm monitoring, but the default option is a “single-station” fire alarm, which is not connected to the fire department. With fire alarm monitoring, the system is connected to the fire department.
You can install a hardwired smoke detector yourself, but only if you have a good familiarity with home electrical work and an understanding of electrical circuits before attempting this project.
Most smoke detector and fire alarm models will include a “silence” function. Press this, and the beeping will stop.
Dust and debris can easily accumulate inside your hard-wired smoke alarm, causing that incessant chirping sound. This build-up can interfere with the sensing chamber, triggering false alarms. To prevent this, make a habit of cleaning your smoke detectors regularly.
Remove the batteries and hold down the reset button for 15 to 20 seconds. Reconnect the batteries and alarm. It will most likely beep once as evidence it is working, then it should stop.
Electrical Issues: Faulty wiring or low battery voltage can make your smoke detector act erratically. Ensure you change the batteries as recommended by the manufacturer, typically every six months. If you have hardwired detectors, schedule regular maintenance to check for any electrical issues.
