Here at SimpliSafe, all of our sensors are battery-powered and our Base Station has a built-in rechargeable backup battery. This will provide power for up to 24 hours during a power outage.
The SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera is wireless, meaning it runs on battery power. Luckily that battery can last between three and six months between charges, depending on usage.

The Keypad takes four (4) AA batteries and they are expected to last 8-12 months, depending on your usage and placement. If you find that your batteries are not lasting nearly as long as that, there are a few steps you can take to optimize your Keypad's performance.
How long does a SimpliSafe battery last? A SimpliSafe camera battery should last anywhere from 3-6 months. Sensors can last years. Systems vary based on usage, but it notifies you when any battery needs to be replaced.
Batteries in wireless devices (PIRs, Door contacts, keypads, sirens etc) need replacing approximately every 2 years and the main control panel requires a back-up battery change approximately once every 5 years, therefore you will incur slightly higher running costs with wireless.

It also features a cellular module and with a professional monitoirng plan will operate on a cellular network instead of Wi-Fi.
The Base Station is the brains of your system. When one sensor or camera detects danger, it sends a signal to the Base Station, which sounds the siren and notifies you immediately. If it's unplugged or the power goes out, the 24-hour backup battery keeps you covered.
You will likely never need to replace your Base Station's batteries as they are rechargeable and meant to last. The batteries in the Base Station are Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries.
SimpliSafe cameras don't record 24/7. The video footage is limited to short clips recorded when motion is detected. We like this because it means you don't have to wade through hours of footage to find an event.
With the exception of the Base Station, SimpliCam Indoor Camera, Smart Alarm Indoor Camera, and Key Fob, all of the components for our latest SimpliSafe have batteries that can and should be replaced periodically. When a sensor needs new batteries, your system will display an error message on the Keypad.
Solutions: To prevent an outdoor surveillance camera from being stolen, place it out of arm's reach like up on the walls, soffit, the overhang of the roof, or under the eave, mount it into the wall with screw mount or security mount (Click here to find more prefect installation spots for security cameras).
The Outdoor Camera's battery takes up to 6 hours to charge completely.
Wireless cameras without internet retain all of their functionality because they don't depend on your Wi-Fi either. No effect on bandwidth: Unlike WiFi-connected cameras, IP cameras won't slow down your internet by taking up precious bandwidth.
You can disarm your SimpliSafe® system into Off Mode using either the SimpliSafe® Mobile App, Keypad, Key Fob, or Smart Lock.
The equipment you get from SimpliSafe comes outfitted with two features that make your life safer and easier: SmashSafe and SimpliLock™. If the alarm goes off and an intruder destroys the equipment , SmashSafe will still send the signal to SimpliSafe (if you have professional monitoring).
Red means a minor error or a recent alarm.
The Sensors have a range of about 500ft+ over open air - that is, if it was outside with nothing in the way. When placed inside a typical building, physical and wireless interference may reduce that range a bit, though you should have no trouble at half distance - about 250ft.
Although you do not need a computer or Wi-Fi for SimpliSafe® to work for your basic home security needs, access to Wi-Fi and a Smartphone and/or computer are strongly recommended to best take advantage of all of your system's security features.

Disadvantages of Wireless Home Security Systems
The wireless security system runs on radio waves, which can sometimes be subject to interference from, say, other devices using radio waves, such as baby monitors. This can also lead to false alarms.
