It doesn't take much fleas before it becomes a serious
In just 30 days, 10 female fleas can multiply to over a quarter million new fleas in different life stages. Female fleas start producing eggs within 24 to 48 hours after taking their first blood meal and can lay up to 50 eggs per day. Optimum conditions for flea larvae are 65-80 ºF with shaded areas and high humidity.
The time it takes to remove fleas from your home will be dependent on the level of infestation you have. In some cases, it can take several months to get rid of them completely. Remember to keep up with regular flea control to help stop them coming back!
Remember: Adult fleas can live up to two weeks without attaching themselves to a host.
Just One Flea Can Be a Sign of a Problem
As few as 20 fleas might mean your pet is infested, while the most could be between 200 to 300. Ignoring a few fleas can quickly lead to an infestation on your dog and in your home,2 because two adult fleas could lead to hundreds of eggs and pupae.

Flea infestations usually begin by bringing a single flea into your home. Fleas can come inside on pets or on you. Infestations do not happen overnight. Usually they begin quietly and 6-8 weeks pass before you may ever notice a flea.

Fleas like hiding in crevices. Depending on the level of infestation, it can take anywhere from a few hours to an entire day to clean your home. And you'll need to keep up this routine for at least two weeks or up to a month—and possibly keep using insecticides for a year to prevent fleas' return.
Without a host like a cat or a dog, fleas can live anywhere between a few days and two weeks, but they can lay eggs that make the infestation last longer. When female fleas get a source of blood to feed on, they lay eggs and can lay up to 27 eggs per day.
If you find fleas on your pet, don't panic, it's rarely a reason to seek emergency veterinary care. Yes, fleas are unpleasant for pets and humans. Even if you do treat the environment but only use treatments on your pets intermittently, you won't be able to eradicate the fleas, as they will be able to feed and lay eggs, some of which will survive and go on to develop into a new generation of adults.
