Whether your patio is sealed concrete or cement, or even sealed concrete pavers, a bleach and water solution makes it easy to clean away built up soil, stains from leaves and pollen, mold, mildew and algae.
Let the solution sit: Allow the bleach solution to sit on the patio for 10-15 minutes. This will give it time to break down any dirt and grime. Rinse the patio: Use the garden hose or pressure washer to rinse off the bleach solution, starting at the opposite end from where you applied it.
Use Bleach
But that's not all; chlorine bleach can also be used for cleaning the concrete driveway. Of course, you should dilute it with equal parts of water or a 1:1 ratio. With the mixture ready, spray it on the driveway, allowing it to sit for 10 minutes. Then, use a stiff brush before rinsing with clean water.
Cleaning pavers with bicarbonate soda and vinegar
Fill the bucket with lukewarm water and then add the bicarbonate soda, making sure it dissolves properly. Then add a little bit of white vinegar. Pour the solution onto the stained areas on your paver surface and use the scrubbing brush to apply it thoroughly.
The pressure washer in combination with a dirt cutter is an excellent option. This removes not only weeds and moss from the surface, but also from indentations. Keeping up with this type of cleaning means that there is less time for weeds to grow. It also helps to maintain the beauty of the paving stones' surface.
Mild detergent and water. If your pavers aren't too dirty, this can be a quick and easy way to clean them without any fancy equipment. Mix some mild dish soap with water in a bucket to create suds, then use a brush or a sponge to scrub the surface of the pavers.
When bleach is left to air dry on floors and is not rinsed away, it can leave behind bleach crystals after the bleach evaporates. Sodium hypochlorite will break down into salt and water when left to do so. Since undiluted bleach is mostly water to begin with, once the floor dries, salt crystals will be left behind.
As a gentler cleaner, bleach can't harm concrete's durable material. Aside from being an effective cleaner and stain remover, it also acts as a disinfectant to the concrete surface.
Prepare the solution diluting ½ cup bleach in 1 qt. warm water. Add 1 tsp liquid dish soap. This will help enhance the bleach's ability to remove tough stains from the pavers and will help rinse away dirt.
Similar to cleaning pavers with muriatic acid, avoid an intense concentration of bleach, as it can damage the pavers.
Bleach: This alkaline solution may be effective for other household uses, but it can discolor concrete pavers that have been colored or stained.
Bleach solutions require a full 10 minutes of contact time to ensure complete disinfection. If bleach solution evaporates in less than 10 minutes, a greater volume of solution should be applied.
Be sure to rinse away all traces of the sodium hypochlorite solution. Allow the patio to dry: Allow the patio to air dry completely before replacing any furniture or other items.
Use Vinegar or Bleach
If you are going to try this approach to remove mold or algae, first try a mixture of white vinegar and water to spray down the area and kill the mold.
Mix Solution of dish soap and water, and use a brush to scrub the pavers clean. Make sure to rinse the pavers thoroughly afterward. This process may need to be repeated for tough stains. A recommendation is to do this every few months.
Editor's Note: Once the bleach starts to dry, it stops processing your hair, and your strands won't get any lighter from that point on. So, don't assume that leaving bleach on longer than recommended will get you to that white blonde shade you're dreaming of.
Although the concrete is disinfected after just 5 minutes, lightening it will take a little longer. Leave the bleach solution on the concrete for about 20 minutes, then sweep briskly with the stiff broom to dislodge the softened grime. Use the scrub brush to tackle stubborn areas. Rinse off the patio.
Although bleach doesn't evaporate, it loses effectiveness after 24 hours. However, it only occurs when bleach is mixed with water or exposed to high temperatures. Since bleach works best when diluted with water, its potency decreases as soon as the water evaporates.
Keeping the bleach for longer duration makes it difficult for your hair to lock the moisture in and they, eventually, turn brittle. This, in turn, leads to hair breakage and might even cause irreversible damage.
Leaving bleach in a toilet overnight is fine, but you shouldn't leave it any longer, or else it might corrode your toilet. If you do decide to leave it in the bowl overnight, let other members of your household know so that they don't use the toilet and accidentally mix the bleach with ammonia from urine.
Use a specialist cleaner
Try a specialist cleaner like Wet & Forget, at Walmart, which you spray onto the surface of the paving and leave. It can also be used on steps, fountains, patio umbrellas and other smaller outdoor areas. It's bleach-free and non-acidic but will remove mold, moss and grime without any scrubbing.
