Press the "Light" button on the control panel to turn the light on and off.
Solution: Find the Switch & Flip It
Most ovens have a light switch on the control panel so that you can check on cooking food without releasing heat by opening the door. Some ovens have a door-triggered switch so that the light comes on when the door opens and turns off when the door closes.
You will find the switch on the control panel or on the area above the door. The light switch will typically be an ON/OFF switch that toggles up and down or it will be an OVEN LIGHT pad/button. On Double Oven Ranges and Double Wall Ovens, the light will come on when you open the oven door.
Generally if the oven light is not turning off even with the door is closed then the door switch has failed and will need to be replaced or the door is not closing all the way and the door hinges will need to be replaced.
Press the "Light" button on the control panel to turn the light on and off.
Whirlpool Range/Stove/Oven Main Control Board
The oven light often gets its power from the main control board. If the control board is shorted the light can stay on. If the light switch or door switch is in the off position, but the light stays on, the control board has likely shorted and will need to be replaced.
A broken hot surface switch on one of the burners causes the Hot Surface light to stay on constantly. To find out which surface element to replace, you'll lift the glass cooktop and test each of the hot surface switches using a multimeter.
1. Modern ovens are designed to have the light on for extended periods without causing any harm. 2. The light bulb is encased in a protective cover, reducing the risk of anything catching fire.
Oven Light Symbol
This symbol, usually represented by a simple lightbulb, is used for the oven light function. Ovens that have this function give you the option to turn your oven light on even when the oven is not in use, allowing you to look inside for dirt and other food residue.
The electric oven switch is a basic component that is used for critical current loads to have direct control over the switching on and off of equipment.
The light bulb is often located in the back of the oven, on the upper right or left side. You can use a flashlight to help you locate it. It should have a clear cover that will need to be removed. An incandescent bulb cover will be larger and often bulbous while a halogen cover is smaller.
If the red light remains on, the problem is a short circuit in the control switch that remains connected. If the light is off, then the disconnected control is at fault and must be replaced. Before you continue, disconnect the stove and turn off the breaker again.
Now, the average oven will still cook your food perfectly well without a working light bulb, but the lack of light will make your life that little bit harder. And hey, replacement oven bulbs aren't hard to come by, so why stay saddled with a broken one?
First, of course, look for an oven light button on the control panel. Most modern ovens come equipped with an on/off button for the internal light that may have simply been overlooked. If this doesn't work, one of the most common causes for an oven light that won't turn off is an electrical glitch in the control panel.
Remove the oven light bulb cover (see oven manufacturer's guide for exact steps) then use pliers to gently grip the base of the oven light bulb and apply light pressure to twist or pull the bulb out of the socket (depending on the make and model of oven).
If the light bulb was recently replaced, ensure it was replaced with the correct type. Depending on your model, it will take either an iridescent bulb or LED style. If the wrong type of light bulb is installed, you may experience the following: light staying on, brightness not changing, and/or flickering.
Understanding the Oven Cycling Light Operation
The light will also cycle on and off during the Self-Clean and the Broil functions. On some models, the oven cycle light will remain on without cycling when the oven is being used at temperatures of 250 degrees or below.
Once the oven has reached the temperature you have chosen, then the light will go out. The pre heating is completed and the food can be placed inside the oven to cook.
Look for "Control Lock" on the oven control console and then reset by typically holding the button(s) for 3 seconds. Some ovens may also be equipped with a demo mode feature. When demo mode is enabled, the stove will not operate, and the control will display a short presentation highlighting the features of the range.
On average, you can expect your electric oven to last 13 years, these days, and your gas oven to last 15. But, like anything else, the more you use it, the quicker it will wear out. Daily use for a family of five will wear an oven out faster than just heating up a frozen pizza a couple of times a month.
If this happens to you, it's probably not the oven light bulbs themselves that are the problem. The most likely culprit is a faulty electrical connection inside the oven. This is something that you'll need to get fixed by a professional.
