Transform dull, stained wall tiles by cleaning with gentle homemade solutions like warm water, mild detergent and baking soda (alkaline). Apply baking soda paste or tile polish to refresh shine. Combat discolouration with a baking soda paste. Apply, let it sit, scrub gently, and rinse to unveil a refreshed appearance.
Glossy finish tiles have an extra but durable glaze layer of liquid glass. It makes porcelain tiles shinier and brighter with an ultra-smooth texture. These teapots have been refired to cone 6. This is just a standard porcelain body (feldspar, kaolin, silica, ball clay) that vitrifies fully at about cone 7. The slower the firing the more likely this is to happen (refires must be done more slowly to avoid dunting).
It's really easy to convert a matte glaze to a glossy glaze, just by adding one ingredient – Silica (SiO2). The 3 photos above are pairs of test tiles where the only difference between each pair is the addition of Silica. Matte glaze on the left + Silica = glossy glaze on the right.
The best glaze advice I can give you is to find a good zinc free clear glaze to use. I like the Amaco series HF9 Zinc-Free Clear.
