After replacing a filter, the filter-change alert timer needs to be reset. To reset the filter indicator, press the AUTO and DIM buttons together for 3 seconds. The CLEAN FILTER light will flash 3 times and then turn off completely, indicating the unit has been reset.
For a deeper clean, make a solution of warm water, lemon juice, and salt. Soak the activated carbon for an hour, swishing occasionally. The acidity helps dissolve mineral scale, while the salt abrasion scrubs the carbon surface. Rinse thoroughly.
Find the Reset Button on the Filter: The filter reset button is located on the head control panel and can be referred to as "Filter Reset" or "Reset." Hold Down the Reset Button: Once again, press the reset button and hold it for a couple of seconds until the filter light goes off.
Can you regenerate/reactivate the carbon by Heating it? Yes if you can heat it to 800 – 1000 degrees Celsius in an Oxygen free environment. This will burn off contaminants and reactivate the carbon.
While it is possible to reuse a carbon air filter, it is not recommended. Washing a carbon air filter can remove some of the impurities trapped inside, but it will not fully reactivate the carbon. The pores will not open up, and it won't be any better at collecting odor molecules.
It is recommended to put your bamboo charcoal pouch outside under direct sunlight for 2-3 hours per side every 30-60 days (whether it is -30°C or +30°C) for best results. The UV from the sunlight is what activates the bamboo charcoal. During this process, the UV gets into the charcoal and the pores expand.
The material is heated up to around 1000º F, which volatilizes 75 – 90% of the adsorbed materials. At this point, steam is injected into the system to remove the remaining volatiles and “reactivate” the carbon.
Hold the middle of the carbon filter up to your nose (within 1-3cm) and smell the carbon filter. If you smell a sour, acidic or chemical smell, then this means your carbon filter is saturated and should be replaced.
As we mentioned before, it is possible to reactivate the spent charcoal; however, doing so requires either heating the charcoal back up to the 1,700° to 1,800°F or chemically, to force the charcoal to let go of the impurities, however, it most likely will not let go of all.
Once the purifier is powered-on, hold the Reset button until the red Carbon indicator turns off. 1. We recommend that you visually inspect the Prefilter every month, and clean as needed. At minimum, you should hand wash the Prefilter every time you change the Carbon filter.
This feature is a reminder to clean the Air Filter (refer to Care and Cleaning section of the Use and Care Guide) for more efficient operation. The LED light will illuminate after 250 hours of operation.
The Air Doctor® Clean Filter Indicator Light will turn on each time a filter needs to be replaced. To reset the filter indicator, press the AUTO and DIM buttons together for 3 seconds. The CLEAN FILTER light will flash 3 times and then turn off completely, indicating the unit has been reset.
Activated carbon is made by being placed in a tank without oxygen and subjecting it to extremely high temperatures, 600-900 degrees Celsius. Afterwards, the carbon is exposed to different chemicals, commonly argon and nitrogen, and again placed in a tank and superheated from 600-1200 degrees Celsius.
Factors Affecting Carbon Filter Longevity
Typically, a carbon air filter lasts between three to six months. However, this duration can vary significantly depending on these factors.
The reactivation of activated carbon involves its thermal treatment at high temperatures, generally between 600 and 900 °C, in the absence of oxygen. This process burns the impurities adsorbed on the surface of the carbon without significantly deteriorating its porous structure.
You can re-use your carbon 4-5 times if you follow these cleaning steps… Gather your materials: You will need your activated carbon, a large container, a strainer, a stirring spoon, and water. STEP 1 – Rinse the activated carbon: Place the activated carbon in a strainer and rinse it thoroughly with cold water.
Filter owners must understand that replacing activated carbon filters is a very crucial part of system maintenance. The replacement of filters helps to extend the life of the water filter and ensures your drinking water is clean, healthy and toxin-free.
The problem with the activated carbon bed is that over time, the gaseous pollutants increasingly fill up the adsorption sites of the activated carbon. Once the bed is saturated, the filter can no longer trap pollutants.
In our industry, 'regeneration' refers to a milder set of processing conditions, compared with high temperature 'reactivation', which only partially restores the activated carbon's porosity/capacity.
Boil the charcoal in water for 10minutes before use. Then fill your bottle/carafe with drinking (potable) tap water and wait for the charcoal to filter impurities from the water. Leaving it overnight is ideal, but you will taste the difference after just one hour. Then, enjoy great tasting water!
