Try mixing a weak solution of water and dishwashing soap. Dip a soft cloth in the solution, wring it out and wipe the entire piece. You want a damp cloth, not a wet one. Don't saturate the wood, and rinse your cloth often.
A Replacement For Pledge Emerges
More and more, one name kept coming up: Holloway House Quick Shine. I decided to take a wait-and-see approach to trying it though, figuring some sort of consensus would emerge. And after a few months it did. The stuff basically works like Pledge.
CONSIDER CLEANING:
with a mild nonalkaline soap and water. Use the suds in a damp sponge or cloth, but be sure to pre-test the solution on an inconspicuous section to make sure it doesn't damage the finish. Ensure the cloth is not too wet to avoid excessive moisture on the wood.
Untreated wood is porous and absorbent, so it isn't recommended to use harsh, store-bought cleaners. Instead, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
Most experts agree that you should first try to clean your wood furniture with a mixture of dish soap and water. If this doesn't work, you can try slightly stronger cleaners, but this is usually sufficient.
We do not recommend mixing any Pine-Sol® product with other cleaning products or chemicals. Mixing cleaners can result in the release of hazardous gases.
Don't use vinegar on unsealed wood: If your wood furniture is unsealed, vinegar can penetrate the wood and cause damage. Only use vinegar on sealed wood furniture. Don't use vinegar on waxed or oiled wood: If your wood furniture is waxed or oiled, vinegar can dissolve the wax or oil and cause damage.
If it is furniture - use Murphy's oil soap, but not on wood floors! Use only what the wood floor manufacturer recommends. If it's raw wood floors and finished in the home you can use a very small amount (2 Tablespoons) to a gallon of water.
Use A Natural Dish Soap
One of the most effective ways to remove dirt and stains from unvarnished natural wood is to [dilute] a small amount of natural dish soap into some lukewarm water. Then, carefully use a damp cloth to apply this to the wood.
Do NOT clean your floors with Murphy's Oil Soap, Mop and Glo, Orange Glo, Swiffer Wet Mop, furniture polish such as Pledge, vinegar, ammonia, or any pine cleaners! All of these cleaners, over time, will dull and damage the finish.
Should you use a glass cleaner (Windex) to clean wood furniture? In general, you should not use glass cleaners on your wooden furniture. It can damage the finish or the wood and can leave behind spots.
In a bowl, mix warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Dip a microfiber cloth in the solution and wring it out so it's damp. Wipe down the wood furniture, making sure to avoid getting it too wet. Use a clean cloth to wipe dry, ensuring no water lingers.
Endust works well on lots of different surfaces - you can use it on electronics, glass, wood, and plastic without worrying about damage. It's particularly good for electronics because it's gentle and doesn't leave residue.
Note: You can use cider vinegar and an oil that won't go rancid (I used Canola Oil and it worked just fine but I think just to be safe next time, I'll use something like mineral oil or walnut oil).
Cleaning Unfinished Wood Furniture
For deeper cleaning, use a mild wood cleaner or a mixture of warm water and gentle dish soap. Apply the cleaner sparingly with a soft-bristle brush, working in the direction of the wood grain.
No rinsing
It has a pleasant smell and seems to do the job. I like that no rinsing is required.

Safe Cleaning
It's important to dilute these substances properly. Too much vinegar can potentially dull the wood finish over time due to its acidity, while too much Dawn can leave a slippery residue. The ideal mixture typically involves a mild solution of diluted vinegar with just a few drops of Dawn.
In some cases, baking soda can cause discolouration on wood surfaces, especially if left to sit for too long. The alkaline nature of baking soda may react with certain types of wood or finishes, resulting in a faded or cloudy appearance.
Hydrogen peroxide is more than just a household cleaner—it's a powerhouse for lighting wood. Here's why it's my go-to method: Gentle Yet Effective: Lightens wood without damaging the fibres or leaving yellowish tones like household bleach. Cost-Effective: It's far cheaper than commercial wood bleaching products.
Dish soap, known for its grease-fighting properties, pairs excellently with vinegar, which acts as a natural disinfectant and deodorizer. This blend not only targets stubborn stains and buildup but also leaves surfaces sanitized and fresh.
Pine-Sol® is not recommended for use on marble, aluminum, or unsealed, waxed, oiled or visibly worn wood. Q: Where should I NOT use Pine-Sol® Cleaners? A: We do not recommend using Pine-Sol® Original Multi-Surface Cleaner on aluminum, copper or marble surfaces.
