Because dryer sheets contain detergent, they're also perfect for cleaning soap scum, and grime off of shower doors, walls, and fixtures. Moisten the dryer sheet, rub the soap scum to remove it, and then rinse your shower with clean, warm water to remove any residue.
To clean soap scum and mineral deposits from a shower door, mix one capful of Downy Fabric Softener and one quart of warm water in a plastic bucket, dampen an abrasive sponge in the solution, and scrub the shower doors and walls clean.
For regular cleaning, simply wipe the used dryer sheet over the dirty glass. For more intense messes, try wetting the dryer sheet first, scrubbing the glass surface, and then rinsing afterwards.
Start by moistening the dryer sheet under warm water, then rub it on to the dry glass of the shower door. You should see the soap scum start to peel off, and as you keep working, even more of that soap scum will loosen and pull away.
Simply wipe your Magic Eraser firmly across the glass shower doors with a firm, steady swipe. All it takes is a few wipes to break through soap scum and hard water. Your doors will go from grimy to shiny in no time at all.
Paper towels are typically treated for absorbency, which makes them ideal for spills, but awful for glass cleaning. Instead, substitute your paper towels for something more practical, like actual cloth. Lint-free cotton cloths, like microfiber cloths are great options for glass cleaners.
A few drops of water on the dryer sheet and you should be able to rub away soap scum on your glass shower doors and shower tiles.
All you have to do is add your favourite fabric conditioner to hot water and use a Minky MCloth, or “Minkeh” as Mrs Hinch calls it, to gently wipe off any marks on your doors.
For a homemade shower-door cleaner, mix distilled white vinegar (heated first) with the grease-cutting power of dish detergent, such as Dawn, in equal proportions. Pour the solution into a spray bottle (like this Better Homes & Gardens Glass Spray Bottle, $5, Walmart).
To prevent hard water stains from forming, consider purchasing an inexpensive squeegee, and store it in your shower. Use the squeegee after every shower to remove the water from the walls and glass. This step stops hard water stains from forming.
These water stains are created by mineral deposits left by hard water, and they usually require a bit of muscle power to buff away. However, dryer sheets can help make that task much easier!
Choose lint-free
Microfiber or other lint-free towels won't leave behind little specks on glass surfaces. Newspaper or old, clean cotton diapers are other great options.
Additionally, newspapers are more absorbent than paper towels so they can soak up more liquid which makes them ideal for wiping away residue from windows quickly and efficiently without leaving behind any smudges or streaks.
Microfiber will not scratch glass.
In just a few swipes, it will start breaking through the buildup, so your shower doors will slide and glide with ease. The Magic Eraser is great for cleaning shower tile and shower glass, too! Just use your Magic Eraser Bath to power through scuffs or stains all across your bathroom.
Many hotels use ammonia-based cleaning solutions because ammonia readily cuts through dirt and soap scum. Because of the way it dries, ammonia also decreases the possibility of streaks on glass.
Never use an abrasive cleaner or scouring pads while cleaning glass shower doors. Those products can scratch the surface. Use distilled white vinegar to clean shower glass before trying heavy-duty products with chemicals. Heat 1/2-cup undiluted vinegar in microwave for 30 seconds.
For light buildup on glass shower doors, moisten dryer sheets and use them to cut through soap scum and newer hard water stains. Mr. Clean® Magic Erasers also work really well for removing grime and residue from your shower doors, tile and more.
