Electrical issues, such as a damaged power cord or faulty battery from solar motion lights, can prevent the device from working correctly. Issues like power surges and power outages can also cause a motion detector light to stop working.
In addition to battery replacement, keeping motion sensors clean and free from dust, debris, or other obstructions leads to optimal performance. Accumulated dirt or grime can interfere with the sensor's ability to detect movement accurately, leading to missed detections or false alarms.
Clean the sensor. Use a soft cloth moistened with a cleaning solution such as window cleaner. Remove accumulation of dust and mildew, as well as any insects and spider webs from the fixture and bulb. Pay particular attention to cleaning the lens of the infrared sensor that switches the light on when motion is detected.
Regular cleaning of these components is a fundamental aspect of sensor maintenance. Dust, debris, or contaminants can compromise their accuracy and responsiveness. Using a soft, lint-free cloth and, if necessary, a mild cleaning solution helps remove any buildup without causing damage.
Also, they only switch on when needed, so you can minimise your energy consumption, especially if you have a spacious outdoor area. However, while motion detector lights are designed to work smoothly, they can fail sometimes. They also have a limited lifespan.

How can you prevent the motion from being triggered? Do not allow any moving items to remain in an area where a motion sensor is located. Talk to your technician when he is installing your system. Let him or her know if you have pets that can climb onto furniture and get in the way of a motion sensor.
Types of Motion Sensors
Once the sensor warms up, it can sense heat and movement in the immediate areas, creating a defensive “grid.” If a moving object blocks a lot of grid zones and the infrared energy levels change rapidly, the sensors are triggered.
The most common cause of failure, such as "LED does not light" or "sensor does not conduct," is "overcurrent. For example, even when connected at the specified contact rating, a current greater than the rating may flow when the equipment is turned on.
Sensor failures can be caused by mechanical damage, environmental factors, electrical interference, or calibration errors.
To check for sensor dust, set your camera to Aperture Priority mode, then select a narrow aperture, such as f/16 or f/22. Using a telephoto lens or a zoom lens set to the longest focal length, take a photo against a white wall at the minimum focusing distance from your subject.
Motion Detectors have a built-in function called "dwell time." Dwell time means that after the device is tripped it will need a three-minute period in which it detects no motion in order to "reset" back to its default detection mode.
