Your home security system likely has a main source of power, which is a box that is secured to the wall with an outlet. This box is the key to turning off the alarm while there is no electricity. Simply disconnect the box from the outlet by unplugging it.
Power Down
Unplug the power supply and battery in the alarm panel box. These are usually located in, or around: A utility closet.
Most home monitoring services will automatically dispatch local police if your system loses power. Disconnecting wiring or causing the old system to lose power may set off a false alarm, resulting in an unnecessary emergency response that could land you with a fine.
Your panel has 2 sources of power: The AC power (where it is plugged into an outlet) and the System backup battery. To fully power down your panel you must disconnect both of these. (Note: Powering down your panel should only be done if it is the last resort.
The transformer is located where the alarm control panel is installed (not the keypad). The transformer may be colored white or tan, and will be plugged into the nearest electrical outlet by your alarm panel. A wire from the transformer will run to the alarm panel.
The anti-theft or car alarm fuse is usually found in the fuse box on the driver's side. In some vehicles, the anti-theft fuse can be in the fuse box under the hood that's also on the driver's side. The fuse box should be behind the air filter.
The transformer could be anywhere: in your crawl space, behind the chime, attached to your breaker box, in your attic, in your garage. There is no standard location for the transformer.
Most systems will begin beeping or chirping as a result of a total power outage or failure to recharge the system backup battery. For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
Open your device's Clock app . Tap Alarm. On the alarm you want, tap the Down arrow . Cancel: Turn the switch on or off.
Use a pair of pliers to remove the appropriate fuse. That should take care of the alarm in all cases except one (noted below) since the alarm won't run without electricity.
Hardwired Smoke Alarms
Locate the main breaker panel for your home. Identify which circuit breaker powers your smoke alarms. Each breaker should be labeled, so look for something that says “smoke alarm” or something similar. Turn off the circuit breaker for your smoke alarms.
Your home alarm system is a “low vol”, or low voltage system. These systems are not wired directly in to your house power, but are powered from your wall electricity by a large transformer. This is basically an AC power adapter and a backup battery found in a panel box installed in your home.
Go to your main control box and disconnect the battery supply, which will stop all beeping and shut your alarm system down. Once power is restored, you can reconnect your battery and your alarm system should work as before.
To do this, do the following steps:
Locate the ADT alarm control panel (it's usually located in the utility room or basement)On your ADT keypad, press the [OFF] or [#] button to silence the beepingOpen the control panel with a screwdriver. Disconnect the battery from the ADT circuit board.
Many people assume that you need to get the alarm company to remove a burglar alarm, but it's likely to be a lot cheaper to work directly with an electrician (although make sure you notify the alarm company that the alarm is being removed, so they don't think the alarm is being tampered with!).
Most smoke detector and fire alarm models will include a “silence” function. Press this, and the beeping will stop. If the smoke detector/fire alarm continues to pick up on smoke after a short period has elapsed, the beeping noise will start again to ensure your safety.
Kill the power – if all else fails, a last-ditch option to disable your car alarm is to starve it of power by disconnecting the battery. One simple way of doing this is to remove the negative (black) battery connector from the battery.
The transformer for Honeywell/ADEMCO security systems is typically installed in an outlet near the security system for convenience. However, some installers may choose to place it in a hidden location so that it is not easily accessible. This can include places like a closet or the attic.
The most common types of transformers for residential use are pole mounted and pad mounted transformers. Pole mounted types are the cylindrical containers you see hanging around electrical poles and pad mounted types are the green or gray boxes you see at the back or front of your houses.
