In brief, the quickest way to disarm the ADT alarm system is to enter the user code + OFF key.At this point, turning off the ADT alarm will deactivate the sensors and detectors allowing you to move freely without triggering the alarm.
Your panel has 2 sources of power: The AC power (where it is plugged into an outlet) and the System backup battery. To fully power down your panel you must disconnect both of these. (Note: Powering down your panel should only be done if it is the last resort.

For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad. If this does not work, please refer to your security system manual for specific instructions.
To disarm the system enter your user code + OFF key [1]. IMPORTANT: Temporary users should not be shown how to use any system function they do not need to know (e.g. bypassing protection zones). Enter Master code + CODE key [8] + 2-two digit user no.
Command Touchscreen:
Arm Stay: tap [Arm Stay], then enter [security code] Arm Away: tap [Arm Away], then enter [security code] Disarm: tap [Disarm], then enter [security code]
Your security code + OFF is used to disarm the system, to silence the alarm and trouble sounds, and to clear any alarm memories. The touchpad will emit a single tone to confirm that the system has been disarmed and/or silenced.
If you cancel a plan, your home security system will still work, and you will still receive Blue by ADT app alerts and notifications, though you won't have the benefit of professional monitoring.
Remove the AC power to the home alarm console from the wall directly. Use your console's access key (or another item such as a small screw) to unlock and open the system's backing. Lastly, disconnect at least one of the wires that are attached to the system's main battery, which is blocky and noticeable in most units.
Hardwired Smoke Alarms
Locate the main breaker panel for your home. Identify which circuit breaker powers your smoke alarms. Each breaker should be labeled, so look for something that says “smoke alarm” or something similar. Turn off the circuit breaker for your smoke alarms.
Most home monitoring services will automatically dispatch local police if your system loses power. Disconnecting wiring or causing the old system to lose power may set off a false alarm, resulting in an unnecessary emergency response that could land you with a fine.
Reset the home security system
Even though you can turn the alarm off on your home security system without assistance, you cannot reset it on your own. Contacting the security company will allow you to have the system reset, although this may mean creating a new security code or pin number.
Typically, they'll simply leave the equipment on the house, and you (or a new owner, if you sell) can re-activate service at any time. If you have existing, previously-installed equipment at your house when you start your ADT contract, that equipment is, and will remain to be, your property.
Most systems will begin beeping or chirping as a result of a total power outage or failure to recharge the system backup battery. For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
Does ADT equipment work if I cancel the service? You must have an active monitoring subscription with ADT to use the equipment that it provides. Otherwise, you miss out on most of the functionality.
If you subscribe to our smart home security services, you can arm, disarm, or manage your security system from your smartphone using the Guardian app. For quick tips on how to use the app, check out our App in a Snap video series!
Disarm: Press OFF and enter your Security Code. This will turn off any alarms, as well as disarming the system. TIP: Make sure all windows and doors are closed before arming the system.
