Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise. It should detach from the base so you can open the battery compartment in the back. Remove and replace the battery to see if it caused the issue.
If your smoke alarm is emitting a single high-pitched chirp every 30 seconds or so, it's most likely a sign that the battery is running low and needs to be replaced. Stopping the problem is a simple matter of changing it out.
Silence the Alarm in 3 Steps
Press the hush/silencing button. It will silence the entire interconnected system. The button may also say “test.” It should silence all the alarms immediately unless there's still smoke and debris.
If you replaced the battery and it's still beeping, the smoke detector might have expired like milk. Smoke detectors have an expiration date. The sensitive equipment inside can only work reliably for so long, so if yours is beeping and its expiration date has passed (or will in a year or two), it's time to replace it.
Remove the battery: If your smoke detector has a backup battery, remove it and press the test button for 15 seconds to drain any residual charge. Reinstall the battery: Insert a fresh battery and reconnect the power cable.
Clear Residual Charge to Stop the Chirp
Remove the alarm from your ceiling or wall. Open the cover and take out the battery. Press and hold the test button for 15-30 seconds. This will fully reset the smoke alarm and drain any charge left inside.
Stopping a smoke alarm from beeping is often simple. Get a step ladder and carefully reach for the alarm. Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise.
Can I install a hardwired smoke detector myself? While it is technically possible, it is not recommended. Working with your home's electrical system can be dangerous and complex, best left to a qualified electrician.
The process for stopping a smoke alarm is simple. For battery-operated smoke alarms, this can be as simple as pressing the “test” or “silence” button. If your smoke alarms are interconnected, you may need to flip the “smoke” switch on your breaker box.

Most alarms have a red reset button. Hold this down for 15 to 20 seconds and see if that doesn't do the trick. Method 2 - Try a manual reset. Remove the batteries and hold down the reset button for 15 to 20 seconds.
Disarm the alarm system
The process for doing this differs for each system, but one of the following is usually recommended: Enter the passcode and disarm. Arm the system, and then disarm it, immediately. Press the status button on the keypad.
The "HUSH" feature has the capability to temporarily desensitize the smoke alarm circuit for approximately 7 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the "HUSH" button on the smoke alarm cover.
'Low battery chirp' is a short high pitched warning sounds emitted by your smoke alarm every 30-40 seconds. Pressing the 'Hush' button will force the alarm into 'low battery hush' mode, temporarily silencing the low battery warning for 8 hours, to give you time to replace the 9V battery.
Low Battery or End-of-Life: This type of chirp indicates it is time to replace your smoke alarm's batteries or the smoke alarm itself.
The battery may need to be replaced. An alarm will chirp every 30 to 60 seconds for a minimum of seven days. With a "low battery" announcement, disconnect the unit and replace the batteries. You can also put a unit into low battery hush for up to 12 hours on newer units by pressing the test/hush button.
All First Alert Alarms come with a Test Button. With the battery removed from the unit, press and hold this button for 30 seconds. This will fully reset the alarm, removing the residual charge of the previous battery.
