If you want to try resolving issues with your washing machine, such as power surges or error codes, it's possible you might need to perform a quick reset. One way you can reset a washer is by unplugging the unit for at least one minute, then plugging it back in and restarting the appliance.
How to fix the error: For a top-loading washer, press start and pause at the same time to clear the code; then press start and pause again to reset the washer. For a front-loading washer, unplug it for one minute, then plug it back in.
To reset the washer's control panel:
If your washer is plugged into an outlet, simply unplug the unit for one minute and then plug the unit back in. If the washer is hard-wired to the power supply, turn the breaker off at the home electrical panel that powers the washer for one minute and then turn the breaker back on.
To reset the electronic controls on your washer, shut off the circuit breaker or fuse to the washer or unplug the washer for 2 minutes. For models that have a timer control knob, turn the knob around and back to any position other than final spin for the interrupted cycle. Then, restore power.
Press START/PAUSE once to clear the code, then press START/PAUSE again to restart washer. If the code doesn't clear, Contact Us or Schedule Service Online.
For a front-load washer, put 2 tablespoons of borax or oxygen bleach and 2 tablespoons of washing soda in the tub of the washing machine. For a top-loading machine, put 1/2 cup of each of the powders into the wash tub. Run at the hottest temperature or use the “clean tub” setting on the washer.
Common appliance codes could be related to a problem with the door, a water heating sensor, a software or circuit board fault, a motor or pump fault plus much more. Simple things that could have an error code could be the door being left ajar on the machine or the detergent drawer not in situ properly.
Begin by turning off the washer and then unplugging the power cord. Wait at least 5 minutes, then plug the machine back in. The code should now be cleared from the display. Start the wash cycle again, if the error code returns, follow the next steps below.
If OFb (off-balance load) appears in the display, the load is out of balance. The washer could not remedy the off-balance load via automated methods and now needs manual intervention to redistribute the load evenly around the washplate.
First, try keeping the machine turned off for five minutes, then try opening the door again. If this doesn't fix the issue, you can gently strike the door over the area where the lock is with the palm of your hand. This can sometimes activate and release the lock.
Power down your washer and unplug it from its wall outlet. Press the 'Power' for 5 seconds, then wait 10 seconds, and press the 'Start/Pause' buttons for 5 seconds as well. Wait 5 minutes, to allow for all residual electricity to discharge from your washer. Plug your washer back in, and turn it on.
Turn the machine off at the powerpoint, wait for one minute, and then turn it back on. If you see no change, you can try a Master Reset. This will reset all of the onboard componentry and is often successfully used by appliance technicians. Open and close the door of the washing machine 6 times within 12 seconds.
If there is standing water in the washer tub following the final spin cycle, or there is water leaking from the bottom of the washer cabinet, the washer's drain pump or drain hose could be clogged or broken and preventing the water from being emptied from the appliance into a laundry tub or standpipe.
Solution. Check the washer's drain hose for any blockages and remove them. You can use a plumber's snake to clear out any obstructions within the hose. Alternatively, drain hoses are relatively cheap to replace.
