The National Kitchen and Bath Association, however, recommends that it be at least 20 inches from the wall. The sink's edge should be at least four inches from walls and large objects, such as cabinets. Whether you are spacing a sink away from a wall or countertop depends upon the type of sink you are installing.

According to the International Residential Code, upon which all other building codes are based, there must be a minimum clear floor space area of 21 inches in front of a bathroom sink or vanity. Measure from the front edge to any wall or fixture opposite to determine the precise clearance present.
Typically the setback is 2" to 2-1/2" from the front of the counter, depending on the countertop overhang, the type of sink bowl and the size of the sink deck.
Faucet Base Sizing
If a 1-inch buffer of counter space is left in front of the sink, 3 inches more is available behind it to mount the faucet. As long as the faucet base is less than 3 inches wide and the total width of the sink is 20 inches or less, the faucet will comfortably fit on the countertop.

A standard (non-air-gap) faucet, with or without tubing attached, needs a hole that's 7/16" in diameter or larger. You can install standard faucets comfortably in holes up to 1.25". It's possible to install in a 1.5" hole, but it's hard with the standard faucet escutcheon.

Undermount Sinks
In this case there should be about 3 inches of space from the edge of the sink to the wall/backsplash. In most cases this will allow at least a one inch rim around the front of the sink.
Typically for bathrooms, 10-17 inches is the general range for sizes. Anything larger may not necessarily be practical as that is encroaching on kitchen sink size. 10 inches is the starting point for an undermount sink, giving you just enough space to wash your face and complete any bathroom activity you wish.
If you have an undermount sink, measure from the edge of the counter opening. Measure the length of your sink by placing the edge of your tape measure on the left edge of the sink and stretching it across to the right edge. Write down the length.
The most common countertop overhang is 1.5″. We wanted our sink to go about 1/2″ past the countertop, so we positioned our sink so that it would go 2″ past the cabinet face frame/front of the cabinet.
Can a farmhouse sink have a garbage disposal? Yes, absolutely. A garbage disposal can be installed to any farmhouse sink be it a single bowl or a double bowl. In most cases, you can use the stainless steel drain attachments that come with the garbage disposal unit.
The most common sizes for a kitchen sink are 30" or 33", however a standard size could measure anywhere between 24" and 36" in length. The bulk of what you find while shopping will fall within this size range. Generally, sinks up to 30" will contain one large single bowl.
Most sink manufacturers provide a template. Position the template so it is centered on the sink cabinet and is at least 1 1/2 inches back from the countertop's front edge. If your countertop is deeper than 24 inches, place it farther back, but not more than 4 inches.

Double Basin/Bowl Sink
