Add more reeds.
By adding or subtracting reeds, you can easily customize the strength of the fragrance released by your reed diffuser. Try adding one extra reed at a time and give it a day or two to judge the intensity of the fragrance.
To make a reed diffuser smell sronger, you need to add more reeds (the sticks to the bottle that holds the oil) and also keep changing the sticks more often to expose the oil part of the reeds to the air around you for the aroma to diffuse.
You'll also add a small amount of alcohol (1-2 tablespoons) to the oil mixture to help thin the oils and bind them all together so they can travel up the reeds more effectively. You want as high a concentration of alcohol as you can get -- at least 90%.
Simply remove the old reeds, flip them, and insert them back into the bottle. This will help spread the fragrance effectively throughout the room. Once the scent has faded or evaporated, it's time to refill the bottle with fresh diffuser oil.
As the reeds are the vehicle for the fragrance, the more reeds you have, the more 'transport links' there are for the scent to travel into the surrounding room. If you find that your reed diffuser is lacking in potency, try adding more reeds to your diffuser.
Fractionated Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is also virtually odourless, so any essential oil or fragrance oils you use won't have their smell impacted by the base. These characteristics mean it is often considered to be the best carrier oil for reed diffusers.
Keep it simple. Using a q-tip or soft cloth, add a small amount of rubbing alcohol or Multi Clean to your diffusers' tank and work to remove any residue or sediment from the unit, focusing on the ultrasonic disc (the small circular piece in the bottom middle of your diffuser).
I mix the essential oils with alcohol and water.
Since essential oils do not mix with water, ethanol is used to solubilize ("dissolve") essential oils into the water without too much separation. You can use ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, but it needs to be at least 95% alcohol.
To make a reed diffuser, you will need: a narrow-necked, decorative glass bottle, a few rattan reeds or bamboo sticks (depending on the width or the bottle neck), some light coconut oil, a little vodka and your chosen essential oils.
Put a base on your skin first.
If your skin isn't wet and you aren't using a pure concentrated oil fragrance, add a base such as some vaseline, coconut oil, or a heavy unscented lotion to your skin, then layer your fragrance on top. This will help give the fragrance something to cling to.
If you're using a glass reed diffuser base, don't forget to make sure you're happy with the colour of your base oil. The next step in making your reed diffuser oil is to add essential oils for extra fragrance. Why not try lavender and jasmine for a relaxing bedtime aroma, or cedarwood and patchouli for a cosy scent?
Turn sticks occasionally to refresh scent~ once a week should be adequate. We recommend that you carry your reed diffusers to the kitchen sink to do this. (When the oil is finally used up, wash the bottle/vase and simply pour in an oil refill and replace the diffuser sticks.)
Alcohol evaporates quicker than water, making it the ideal liquid for drawing oils up through the reeds. You could use rubbing alcohol instead of vodka, but I'm more likely to have the latter on hand.
Add around 2 teaspoons of white vinegar, which will help break down any built-up oils, and turn on the diffuser. Let it run for 3 to 5 minutes — enough time for the vinegar to remove any stains and oil residue. Turn off your diffuser, unplug and pour out the cleaning liquid.
A: No, you can only add oils to it. there is a small oil "container" that goes underneath the whole unit. I suggest getting essential oils from Eden's Garden (right here on Amazon) eucalyptus or peppermint, they will do the same as Vicks would. Thank you for your feedback!
DIY Essential Oil Reed Diffusers. You will need: What is this? 1/4 cup carrier oil (I recommend lighter oils such as fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or safflower oil.)
You can make a refill with 4 simple ingredients - distilled water, carrier oil (like almond oil / grape seed oil), vodka (or rubbing alcohol) and essential oils. You'll have a beautiful smelling reed-diffuser in under two minutes! Make sure to keep this refill out of direct sunlight and flip your reed sticks everyday.
Steps for Making Reed Diffusers
If you're using an oil base, you will blend a mix of 30% essential oil to 70% base oil. You can experiment with the percentages to see what works best for you.
By smoothing out the back, we are helping to create a better surface to seal against the the mouthpiece. Just flattening the table will make a significant difference in the performance of your reeds. I do this before every playing session on every reed.
Glyphosate (Rated: Excellent)
The reed diffuser smell strength is based on the oil strength and number of reeds. You can make reed diffusers smell stronger by flipping reeds periodically and cleaning the vessel and replacing oil completely. Antica Farmacista recommends flipping your reeds on a daily or weekly basis.
