The best product I've found, that works great, is Easy off oven cleaner. I've used the yellow spray can, with great success. Just spray it on the grout, let it sit for a few minutes. Then mop it up with warm water.
For a low cost and easier fix, scrub it clean and use a grout paint pen. As long as the grout is firm and clean (use a degreaser and a sanitizer) the paint will last quite some time and make the grout look like new without all the mess and stress of rerouting.
Comments Section Try using a magic eraser. I've used them before and it worked for me. A haze is pretty normal. You just have to keep cleaning it, then seal it. Microfiber cloth and magic eraser, saw it was recommended by the grout company, so I trusted it. Worked like a charm.
Yes new grout can be installed on old grout. Make sure the old grout is thoroughly cleaned and then wet before installation. I do this all the time. There is absolutely no need to start over and given the quality of the install you have had so far I would say that starting over might introduce more issues.
Baking powder is actually a tried-and-true way to clean bathroom grout. First, mix some baking powder with water to create a thick paste. Then apply this paste to the grout and let it sit for about an hour. The grout can then be rinsed with clean water and any reside that remains can be wiped away with a cloth.
How it works: Touted as a miracle cleaning paste, The Pink Stuff is easy to apply to grout using a soft cloth or sponge. Simply rub and scrub, and then rinse with hot water. As a mildly abrasive cleaner, the paste has a little grit to it, which helps scrub away dirt and debris from grout and surfaces.
To grout over top of old grout, your best results will be with epoxy over cement grout. Epoxy bonds faster and forms a stronger bond than cement grout, so it will adhere better.
This really works! The grouting around the tiles in our kitchen and bathroom was looking very tried with several black damp spots. The grout pen covered it all in one coat and was very simple and quick to use. We added an extra coat on the very stained sections and now it all looks like fresh grouting.

A dedicated grout rake or a Stanley blade is best for removing existing grout. Grout rakes can be both mechanical and electric. Any electric grout rake is usually 240V and has variable speeds. The Rubi Grout Remover helps to remove grout surrounding ceramic and porcelain tiles.
Remember the tip on avoiding bleach, ammonia, and other harsh chemicals to clean grout. It would be best if you also avoided vigorous scrubbing. A rough brush and too much elbow grease will remove the dirt, but it could also remove the grout. Another way to prevent grout damage is to use a squeegee on shower walls.
Grout pens will only temporarily cover your grout's discoloration. That's probably why they are the cheapest option available. We run into the infamous grout pen issue nearly every other week. The project usually goes awry when the homeowner applies the grout pen to the grout and some bleeds over onto the tile.
Grout Magic is a high quality sealer and re-colourant, offering superior performance to a grout paint or grout sealer that are often used to re-colour tired looking grouting. Grout Magic also out performs and lasts longer than the cheaper grout pens that are often used to tidy up dull and dirty grout.
Magic erasers are a fantastic way to get grout very clean, very quickly. The downside is, the grout will rip through your magic erasers in a hurry. You'll go through more of them than you're used to, and that means this is one of your more expensive options.
