Priming creates the best possible adhesion, increases the durability and lifespan of a coated object, and allows for the most aesthetic results as desired. Montana PRIMER's are for all-around surface preparation on plastics, metal, aluminum, styrofoam, leather, cardboard, wood, and many other materials.
Without primer, the paint may not adhere properly, resulting in a rough, uneven finish that is more prone to chipping or peeling. It's always best to follow recommended painting procedures to achieve the best results.
Krylon Fusion All-In-One® is a premium product that bonds with 5X Stronger Adhesion* to difficult surfaces such as plastics and ready-to-assemble furniture without sanding or priming.
However, Montana spray paint is renowned for its durability and longevity. Under optimal conditions, with proper surface preparation and the use of appropriate primers and sealants, Montana spray paint can last for several years without significant fading or chipping.
How long does Montana GOLD take to dry? Drying time is usually 6-8 minutes but can vary depending on substrate, ambient temperature, humidity levels and thickness of coats applied. The three stages of drying are apx: touch dry in 6-8 mins, working dry in 60 mins and chemically cured in 12-24 hours.
Above all else, self-priming paint is designed to eliminate the need for primer. It is typically thicker than average paint, with a higher concentration of solids to help cover blemishes, leave a more robust finish and ultimately make the process quicker and easier.
Most acrylic and latex paints will not stick to oil-painted surfaces without primer. So before you begin, it's important to check whether the existing paint is oil-based or water-based. In older homes, the wood trim and walls were usually painted with oil-based paints, so it's important to know what's on your walls.
Applying primer before spray painting helps to ensure that your spray paint will have an even finish and smooth out blemishes.
It is strongly recommended where possible to use aerosol cans in well-ventilated areas. Outdoors in open-air environments is optimal, however opening windows or allowing ventilation in the space your working is also beneficial when working indoors.

If it is absorbed quickly and completely, a primer is essential. Even non-absorbent or less absorbent surfaces are easier to work on with a primer. If the surface to be coated consists of more than one material or is heavily stained, a primer should also be sprayed on.
Use a lint-free cloth to wipe away the sanding dust. Before using spray paint, it's a good idea to apply a coat of paint primer. Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover Spray Primer seals bare wood so the paint doesn't absorb too quickly into the porous surface.
Yes. Check out this warning from a typical spray paint can label: “Repeated or prolonged exposure to these chemicals without the use of a proper respirator can cause permanent brain damage, as well as damage to your lungs.” But solvent-based spray paints aren't the only products that present a health hazard.
It shouldn't be all that difficult to paint it again. Let's break down a few common cases. You probably don't need a primer. If the current wall is smooth, clean and covered with the same type of paint (both are oil-based for example), you can head straight for the paint.
While primers are generally less expensive than paint, avoid substituting a prime coat for a full coat of paint. Given this fact, why not just buy the cheaper primer and use it as one of your coats of paint? Whether you tint the primer color or not, it does not replace an extra coat of paint.
What might take three or four coats of paint can be accomplished with one coat of primer and maybe two coats of paint. Don't even think about painting wood paneling without a few coats of stain-blocking primer. Without a good primer, it could take upward of six coats of paint to cover the wood grain.
Most projects where you're going over a previously-painted surface do not require the use of a primer. In many cases all you'll need to do is spot-prime any bare areas that need to be addressed before applying your finish.
Interior walls usually don't need priming except in the case of stains, repairs or a paint color that's drastically different. Interior painted woodwork usually needs spot priming with wood primer at a minimum. Exterior paint takes such a beating that it almost always needs priming with an exterior paint primer.
