No, Magic Erasers do not scratch glass. A magic eraser is made up of Melamine foam which is not abrasive but only agitates more embedded surfaces very effectively. We use magic erasers to remove spots on windows and other surfaces without scratching.
STEP ONE: WET YOUR MAGIC ERASER.
Water activates the tough micro-scrubbers, so they can dig deep and remove hard water stains from glass and the toughest soap scum, making cleaning shower glass easier than ever.
An eraser will not remove scratches from glass.
By itself, a Magic Eraser sponge-like scrubber will not scratch a glass cooktop. (It is made of a very tough crosslinked plastic, called ``poly-imide'', which is strong and durable but not stone-hard. No plastic can scratch glass.)
Simply wipe your Magic Eraser firmly across your oven door with a steady swipe. Watch the micro-scrubbers go to work and make your oven magically clean. All it takes is a few wipes and grease is gone for good. Make sure to give your oven door glass a rinse to remove any extra suds before firing up your oven again.
According to Steckel, a glass polishing compound, like cerium oxide or jeweler's rouge, is your best bet when it comes to buffing out scratches. He also advises having several soft, lint-free cloths or microfiber towels handy; use them to apply the polishing compound and polish the glass effectively.
WD-40: This lubricant is excellent for squeaky hinges, but it has no place in glass scratch repair. It won't fill in scratches or magically make them disappear.
This might blow your mind but Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and generic melamine foam don't have a chemical cleaner or soap inside them, it's literally just an abrasive foam that makes them work.
The easiest glass repair method to try is toothpaste. That's right – the regular paste you use to clean your teeth can also remove minor scratches from glass. Standard toothpaste, particularly if you have one containing baking soda, is especially effective for glass repair.
Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser with Dawn Is the Winning Combo I Didn't Know I Needed.
Before you retire to the couch, rinse out your Magic Eraser and give your newly freshened surfaces a water wipe down, too. If what you cleaned will come in contact with food, you'll need to wipe it with a wet rag or paper towel, so it will be ready for the next time you meet again.
Vinegar and Baking Soda Combination:
For tougher stains, you can create a cleaning solution by mixing equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Sprinkle baking soda on the surface you want to clean, then spray the vinegar solution. This creates a fizzing reaction that can help lift stains.
1. Don't use them dry. Part of the magic of these erasers is that all you have to do is add water to activate them. However, it turns out that these plushy pads are even more abrasive — and can, therefore, do more damage — when dry, so adding water actually helps soften them.
Vinegar and water solution: People have been cleaning with vinegar and water for generations, and with good reason–it works. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean your glass shower.
A ceramic-glass cooktop cleaning paste: Cleaners from Carbona, Cerama Bryte, and Weiman are all good options. Microfiber cloths: Paper towels also work.
Magic eraser will not scratch glass. It has to be a residue from something other than the eraser.
Small, superficial scratches can probably be buffed out, but deep cracks can't be treated this way and will require professional repair. You can use the toothpaste method to buff out small scratches or try a trusty Mr. Clean Magic Eraser—it's one of the most effective at-home tools for removing light scratches.
Is Bar Keepers Friend abrasive? There are abrasive particles in all BKF products except for MORE Spray + Foam. The powder products contain more abrasive than the pre-diluted Soft Cleanser. For jobs that require additional scrubbing power, use one of our powder products.
Mix equal parts baking soda and water in a bowl and stir until you get a pudding-like paste. Rub the paste onto the scratch in a circular motion with a microfiber cloth. Wipe away the baking soda residue with a clean cloth and lukewarm water.
Wood polish and vaseline
To get rid of scratches, simply spray it on your glasses. After that, you can take some vaseline and wipe the problem surface with it. Scratches should become less noticeable.
Apply a small amount of toothpaste or soap to a lightly damp rag and use small, circular motions with a bit of pressure over the scratch. Keep rubbing for about 30 seconds. Use a clean rag to wipe away the excess toothpaste and see if the scratch has been polished away.
Use a microfiber cloth to dry and buff the stove top glass to keep it gleaming. Avoid scrubbing brushing, scouring pads, Magic Erasers, or other abrasive cleaning equipment, because these can scratch the glass. Stick with a microfiber cloth or a soft sponge.
Editor's note: Because The Pink Stuff paste is more abrasive, we don't recommend using it on glass, stainless steel appliances or areas prone to scratching. To be safe, I always spot clean one area before applying it all over. The spray is safe to use on delicate surfaces, though.
