Appliance haul away refers to the removal and disposal of old appliances. Haul away is an additional cost during an appliance purchase. For Pros, haul away is free with product purchase only. Add haul away at checkout.
The Fine Print: Available Only with Delivery: Appliance removal is only available when you purchase a new appliance and choose Home Depot's delivery service. Not Free: Haul-away services typically cost $25–$40 per appliance. Condition Matters: The old appliance must be disconnected, empty, and accessible for pickup.
Tipping Lowe's appliance delivery drivers is not required or expected, but it is a highly appreciated gesture of goodwill. While Lowe's official policy for employees technically discourages tipping, most delivery crews will accept cash if offered.
At Lowe's, "Code 5" typically refers to an in-store overhead announcement for a manager to come to a specific department or register. Depending on your local store's specific lingo, it can also occasionally mean that a manager override is needed.
By delivery drivers, we mean the people who deliver food and catering to your home or office. It's standard to tip 10–20% of the total bill. For large catering orders ($100 or more), aim for 13%. For smaller orders, tip 15% or at least $5.
Many appliance retailers will pick up and recycle your old fridge or freezer when you purchase a new one. Ask your retailer for assurance that the old unit will be properly recycled and not re-sold as an inefficient, second-hand unit. Some retailers or manufacturers also offer cash rebates when you buy a new fridge.
The "7-minute rule" at Home Depot refers to the attendance grace period, which dictates that you can clock in up to 7 minutes after your scheduled start time without being marked tardy. If you clock in at the 8-minute mark or later, you will receive an attendance occurrence (or half-point penalty).
Many folks go by the 50-50 rule. If the appliance has reached 50 percent of its expected life and it costs more than 50 percent of the cost of new, buy a new one. Oven failures can start with underperformance. For example, a family favorite just doesn't come out like it used to.
