A home fire alarm sends a message to a private call center, owned by the company you signed up for service. That alarm code is routed to the 911 dispatch office located in the area you live. The 911 operator then sends a response order to Police/Fire/Medical Aid units as needed.

With fire alarm monitoring, the system is connected to the fire department. Your alarm manufacturer may have included a blinking red light to let you know it's time to test the alarm again. The Batteries are Low: Usually accompanied by a loud beep, a blinking red light could mean the batteries in the unit are low. Consider adding fresh batteries and running a test to make sure it's working.
5. Does it cost me anything when I call 911 and Fire/Rescue helps me? Police/Fire/Rescue is generally a free service to you when you call 911, funded by taxes. When 911 is called for emergency medical calls, our EMS crews respond and help determine if the patient needs to be transported to the hospital emergency room.
Fire Departments usually do not charge on routine calls but most of the time a fire department won't unlock your car unless someone is in a danger, “child locked in it” and if that's the case, we are not gonna take the time to protect your property, we will just break a window or open the door with a spreader.
This would obviously depend upon the type of alarm you have. Most any alarm that has a 24/7 alarm center, they receive the alarm and it's immediately passed on to a 911 dispatcher. The 911 dispatchers sends units as directed by policy.
If the alarm is verified, an ADT agent sends the alarm information to the 911 center for dispatch. If your session expires, we will call the premises and the designated emergency contacts to verify the alarm. If we still do not get a response, we will dispatch first responders.
If a building or car alarm is going off and there's clear evidence of criminal activity, such as a broken window or someone acting suspiciously nearby, call 999 immediately.
