This is true for all knives, whether they're straight edge, Cutco's Double-D® edge or other brands' serrated edge. While only straight-edge knives can be sharpened at home, Cutco's Double-D® edge will stay sharp for years, due to its recessed edge design.
Given the quality of the knife, we can't argue with the cost. But what really makes this knife a bargain is that if it ever gets damaged beyond repair, Cutco will replace it.

Gordon Ramsay
Ramsay likes Henckels knives. This is a German brand known for their toughness and bulky blades.
While Wusthof and Victorinox both use a much higher quality chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel [3] in their high-end knives. Zwilling also uses high-carbon German stainless steel in its base-level knives. All of these knives use similar to better quality steel in their knives with much cheaper prices than Cutco.
Sharpening is always free. There is a nominal return shipping fee to cover the cost of sending your items back to you.
Never cut on glass, ceramic or countertops. Those surfaces are harder than a knife's edge and will quickly dull the blade. It's what you cut on that dulls knives, not what you're cutting.
