Mix together a paste using two parts coconut oil and one part baking soda. Apply the paste to the sticker and let sit for several minutes. Scrub and wipe clean with a damp cloth. This method works best for smaller pieces of sticker and residue left over after using a different method.
Coconut oil was the clear winner for removing sticky adhesive. As you can see in the photo the coconut oil not only dissolved the adhesive but allowed the leftover label to come off in a chunk instead of having to scrape over and over.
LPT: Cooking oil will remove adhesive residue without damaging the surface For some residues you have to let it soak in, but a little vegetable or olive oil will dissolve the adhesive in a few hours and can be scrubbed away with a rag.
Oil, acetone, and rubbing alcohol can all work for sticker residue. My favorite is Goo Gone, though. Works for everything sticky, including grease, gum, candle wax, crayon, markers... I always keep some on hand.
There are a few options for getting rid of buildup on scalps if a natural shampoo doesn't do the trick. Softening the residue before shampooing helps remove more stubborn layers. You can use olive oil, almond oil, or our favorite — coconut oil.
“Coconut oil is antibacterial, anti-yeast, and also works as a great first-aid cream. Because of its detergent effect, it also works well as a makeup remover,” explains Thornfeldt.
Invest in a Clarifying Shampoo
While your standard shampoo is formulated to remove everyday oil and dirt, clarifying shampoos are made to clear the hair of all buildup completely. Clarifying shampoos can be used once a month, or once a week if you tend to use more products than most.
Oil-based solutions are a natural and effective method to dissolve sticky labels without harming delicate surfaces. Common household oils like cooking oil, baby oil, or even peanut butter contain compounds that naturally break down the bonds in adhesives, making them excellent choices for removing sticky label residue.
3M adhesive remover is amazing stuff. It beats Goo Gone by a wide margin, I recently used it to remove PETG residue from my 3D printer bed and that stuff is gnarly. 3M 38983 General Purpose Adhesive Remover - 12 oz.
Products like Vaseline made out of petroleum jelly work like oils and lotions to remove adhesive from the skin. A unique benefit is that petroleum jelly is extra-thick, so it's easy to let it sit for a long time (though its greasiness makes this unpleasant for some).
Olive oil works well on these sticky encounters because it serves as a softener, loosening the stubborn glue from the sticker that doesn't want to be displaced.
Hydrogen peroxide is especially good on super glue, and it's a safe way to clean up most glue spills on metal. Soak a cotton ball with the hydrogen peroxide and press it onto the glue until it softens. Use fresh cotton balls as needed to blot up any glue residue.
One easy method is to use standard cooking oil or oil-based materials. Vegetable or canola oil can work wonders, as can peanut butter or mayonnaise. Spread it on, let it soak into the residue for about an hour, then wipe it away. For a tougher clean, try rubbing alcohol or vodka.
Baking soda and vinegar are popular options that can effectively dissolve buildup and prevent clogs. To use this method, pour a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of vinegar. Wait for 10-15 minutes, then flush the drain with hot water.
Rubbing Alcohol or Vodka
Vodka is a good substitute. Wet a paper towel or clean cloth with rubbing alcohol, and rub the residue to lift it off. For stubborn stickers, place an alcohol-soaked cloth on the area and let it sit for several minutes to soften the residue. Use the cloth to rub off what's left behind.
Acetone-based nail polish remover is another valuable substance that can help eliminate your 3M adhesive residue. Acetone is a solvent that will cut through any sticky residue you might be dealing with, allowing you to effectively save on costs related to adhesive removal and use a substance you just have lying around.
The WD-40 Multi-Use Product will need a bit of time to soften the sticker adhesive for all the residue to be removed by a rag, so allow several minutes for the formula to sit on the area. Once the product has loosened the adhesive, use a clean rag to wipe away the rest of the sticker residue and the excess product.
Equal parts coconut oil and baking soda makes an effective, non-toxic replacement for Goo Gone. I mixed 1 part baking soda and 1 part coconut oil, rubbed a little on the sticky spot, and let it sit for a minute or so. Then I scrubbed the spot with a scouring pad, rinsed it off, and voilà! Good as new, gunk is gone.
Lemon Essential Oil
Essential oil, not just for soothing smells! It's also perfect for removing pesky sticker residue. In fact, all citrus oils are very effective at sticker removal due to their degreasing properties.
Soak the glue residue in rubbing alcohol, acetone, or vinegar. Leave it soaked for a few minutes then try scraping it off again. If the glue still proves too stubborn, try heating it up with a hair dryer. This should help loosen up the glue.

“So when it comes to that, I like to use Dawn dish detergent to help.” She goes on to say that she's had a more effective experience using the household product to cut hair grease than even Dr. Bronner's heavy-duty, all-in-one soaps.

Be careful, as they are much stronger than regular shampoos. Clarifying shampoo is only recommended for use once or twice per month.
