Firstly, many of the insecticides that we use are insoluble and won't be washed away by rainfall, however if it's been raining heavily for days on end, and the weather only looks to be getting worse, then it might be best to reschedule.
Sevin Ready to Spray Insect Killer should be applied in calm weather when rain is not predicted for the next 24 hours. This will help to ensure that wind or rain does not blow or wash pesticide off the treatment area. If you experience heavy rain within 24 hours of application, you may need to reapply.
Reapply Only When Necessary
Insect repellents can also wash off in water, so if you're swimming or perspiring heavily, you should think about reapplying afterward.
For many herbicides, any amount of rainfall soon after spraying has the potential to reduce absorption, translocation, and subsequent weed control. If you apply herbicide and it rains before it's rainfast, herbicide performance will be reduced.
At a minimum, you and your family should wait at least 30 minutes before going outside and walking around the area that was sprayed. Keep your pets indoors during this period as well.
Rain just before or after an application does not have a major effect on the success of the treatment. The products we use are oil based, and are not “washed off” by the rain. In fact, we are not treating foliage at all, but spraying in the air while mosquitoes are flying, impacting them at that time.
On the higher end, bug spray with DEET or picaridin can last up to three years when stored properly. On the lower end, such as sprays made with essential oils, effectiveness tops out at about a year.
No method is 100% effective. As a rule of thumb, washing with water reduces dirt, germs, and pesticide residues remaining on fresh fruit and vegetable surfaces. Washing and rubbing produce under running water is better than dunking it.
Unlike sunscreen, very little DEET would be washed off with water and will last for several hours.

If you're worried about afternoon rain washing away the pesticide, rest assured that it only needs roughly 30 minutes to dry. Once it has dried, it will stick to the surface it was sprayed onto. The liquid will become an insoluble barrier that pests can't see and rain won't wash away!
As for the repellent, it usually lasts six to eight hours. If it hasn't worn off by bedtime, you'll want to wash it off with soap and water, as it can be irritating if left on overnight.
Once the area has dried, it is perfectly safe for children and pets to return. There's no airborne residual or smell. Once dry, the treatment binds to the surface it was applied to and takes effect.
Some bugs take shelter from the rain, while others are relatively unbothered. Many small, winged insects fly in all but the heaviest rain. Mosquitoes are especially well-adapted to bad weather flight. In light rain, they make small, nimble targets for raindrops.
When is the best time to apply Sevin pesticides? The best time to apply pesticides is during morning and evening hours when winds are calm and no rain is forecast for 24 to 48 hours. This reduces the likelihood that products may be blown or washed away.
Some products such as Imidan could withstand 1 inch of rain with 1-day old residues. 2-inch (5 cm) rainfall: For all products, 2 inches of rain will remove enough insecticide to make immediate re-application necessary.
How Long Do Pesticides Last in Water? There are many different types of pesticides, and they all break down in their own time. Some, like chlorpyrifos, have very low water solubility and will last a long time. Most seem to stick around for a few weeks to a few months in water and soil.

So, pest control involving these procedures can be done regardless of the weather condition. Also, if you got the exterior treated and it rains after, but at least 3 days after the treatment−it is unaffected.
But do mosquitoes go away when it rains, or do they keep biting? Unfortunately, mosquitoes are able to keep flying when it's raining. This means they can also keep biting you even when it's wet out. The truth is, it's actually pretty amazing that these pests can fly in the rain.
Pest control sprays generally take between 2 – 4 hours to dry which is why this is the time that is recommended for inhabitants to stay away. It is not recommended that inhabitants return before pesticides dry because they can cause health problems if touched or breathed in.
