Connect the white wires (neutral wires) from your fan and ceiling together. Connect the green wire to your household ground wire (copper/bare wire). Connect the black wires together. Connect the blue wires together or the blue wire to the black wire for lights.
The live wire is brown in new systems and red in old systems. The neutral wire is blue in new systems and black in old systems.
Power comes from the service panel along the black (hot) wire through other outlets, switches and light fixtures on the circuit and begins its return to the source through the white (neutral) wire. The black wire attaches to a brass terminal; the white wire, to a silver terminal.
Blue wires are typically used as traveler wires in three-way and four-way switches, as well as ceiling fans. They allow fixtures to be controlled by multiple switches, like when there are switches at the top and bottom of a staircase for the same light.
What wire colors go together? In typical residential wiring, black (live), white (neutral), and green or bare copper (ground) wires go together to form a complete circuit. The black wire carries power to the device, the white wire returns it, and the green wire serves as the safety grounding.
This wire usually runs to the electrical outlet from the switch. The red wire is a phase 2 “hot” wire, which means it's also a live or positive wire (but the black is the primary positive wire). The blue wire (if present) is a phase 3 “hot” wire. The white wire is neutral.
Your power supply line (the black wire) should be feeding both switches and those switches power the fan (black) or the light (blue). To do this method, the wire from your wall circuit to your light has to have 3 wires. Connect black fan wire to the black ceiling wire. Connect the blue wire to the red wire.
Blue & Yellow
These two colors are hot wires usually pulled in conduit for common plug-in electrical devices. Blue wires are used as travelers, usually on three- or four-way switches (controlling a light from multiple locations) or as switch legs for things such as fans or lights.
The neutral is white, the hot (live or active) single phase wires are black , and red in the case of a second active.
The live wire is Brown
This replaces the old colours of red (live) and black (neutral) and green (earth) which changed back in 2006. If your plug has these colour wires, we recommend that you replace it.
Positive wires in a modern AC outlet setup will likely have black, red, and blue cable sheaths. Negative wires will likely have a white cable sheath. You can also use a multimeter to test positive and negative wires.
Usually on fixed wiring it is black for neutral and red for phase, green for earth. Often on flex cable it is brown for phase, blue for neutral and yellow/green for earth.
Wiring Ceiling Fan and Light Operated With One Switch
Connect black wires together. Connect the lighting wire, typically blue, to the black fan wire and the black ceiling wire.
The neutral wire colour is blue. The neutral wire transfers electricity away from the appliance to avoid overloading. It is located at the end of the circuit for connection after the electricity has flowed around the live and earth wires.
Red wire – hot
Typically, they connect smoke detectors in the house's power system. When the alarm goes off, red wires help ensure that all alarms sound off as well. Ceiling fan installations have red wires near light switches. Electricians can connect a black and a red wire or even two red wires.
Electrical Wiring Color Codes. The National Electrical Code (NEC) designates white or gray wire as neutral and bare copper or green wire as grounds. Beyond that, virtually any other color, such as black and red, indicate a hot wire.
The terminal L must be connected to the unearthed conductive part of AC main supply and the terminal N must be connected to the earthed conductive part of AC main supply, to apply the safety agency approval. This purpose is protection by a blowout fuse from electric shock by earth fault.
Crimping is both quick and easy, and makes a very reliable join, creating microscopic welds between the wire and the connector.
To identify positive and negative wires when both are black, one can use a voltmeter to check the electric potential difference between the two wires or utilize the right-hand rule for magnetic fields in conjunction with a bar magnet if current is flowing.
