The short answer is that when the ADT alarm goes off, the ADT monitoring station immediately contacts the home or business owner at 1-2 phone numbers and then notifies the authorities if they don't get an answer with the correct password on the account.
When the alarm is triggered, you have 30 seconds to disarm the alarm by entering your passcode. This will cancel the alarm, resume normal operation of the system, and halt further action. If the passcode is not entered within 30 seconds, ADT Monitoring Centers will be notified, and they will call the Primary Contact.

Accidental alarms

The security system reporting process
Many monitored home security systems include a police response feature. Your home security system won't directly contact the police any time a sensor triggers.
If a building or car alarm is going off and there's clear evidence of criminal activity, such as a broken window or someone acting suspiciously nearby, call 999 immediately.
A Pending Alarm means that the entry delay has expired and the panel is in full alarm, but the monitoring station has not yet been alerted.
A trouble signal (sometimes indicated in the alarm history by the abbreviation TR) indicates a possible problem or difficulty with your security system, such as a loose wire, a poorly aligned sensor or a low battery status.
Beyond that, the answer is a resounding no. ADT can't prevent crime.
If the alarm is verified, an ADT agent sends the alarm information to the 911 center for dispatch. If your session expires, we will call the premises and the designated emergency contacts to verify the alarm. If we still do not get a response, we will dispatch first responders.
Early Termination With ADT
You won't be on the hook for the balance of your contract, but you will have to pay 75 percent of what the remainder would be, due in full upon the termination date.
You must call your monitoring station. Review with your alarm / monitoring company the procedures you expect them to follow when an alarm activates. Put your instructions in writing.
There will be a red wire and a black wire clipped onto the battery, only one wire needs to be pulled off in order to completely disconnect the battery from the system. Once this is done and the transformer is unplugged, the system should be completely powered off.
(Note: Powering down your panel should only be done if it is the last resort. Doing this will disable your system and you will not be monitored.)
