Low Battery: This is the most common reason for a red blinking light on a smoke detector. Even if you've just installed it, the battery may not have been fully charged, or it may have drained during installation. Replace the battery with a fresh one and see if the blinking stops.
Some smoke detectors blink red constantly, indicating they're working properly. If the light blinks red and chirps, your battery may be running low.
Here are some examples of why smoke detectors periodically have a flashing red or green LED light without an alarm sounding; To indicate that the alarm is receiving power and is operating normally. An end-of-life or low-battery warning. To indicate the alarm is in hush mode or that there is a fault with the alarm.
The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the Test/Hush button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately and the red LED blinks every 10 seconds. This indicates that the alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition.
The smoke detector battery is low
If your detectors are battery-operated, changing the detector's batteries is the first thing to consider doing when your red light flashes. Most detectors will emit a shrill chirp or beep and a flashing light when they need a battery replacement.
If correctly attached to the baseplate, your alarm should show a green LED, with a red LED flash every 30-45 seconds. If this is not the case, your alarm may not be fitted correctly. We recommend detaching the alarm from the baseplate and reattaching to stop the beeping.
If the unit malfunctions, the red LED light will flash and the unit will chirp every 30 seconds indicating a system problem. If the red LED flashes every 60 seconds WITHOUT an audible chirp, this is the pre-warning that the battery will soon need replacing. The alarm is battery-operated with a 9V battery.

In some cases, high concentrations of vapour may trigger an alarm, especially if the detector is highly sensitive, but this vapour detection will not be consistent. Lower concentrations of vapour produced by less powerful vaping devices may not trigger an alarm on the same smoke detector.

Your battery may not be installed properly or snapped all the way in place. Even if the alarm sounded briefly when the battery touched the terminals, it may not be snapped securely in place. A loose battery cannot power the smoke alarm properly.

Dust buildup: Dust and debris inside the smoke detector can trigger false alarms. Regular cleaning can prevent this issue. Electrical issues: Problems with your home's electrical system, such as a tripped circuit breaker or loose wiring, can get your smoke alarm beeping.
A “chirping” sound means that it's time to change batteries. Because alarm sensors wear out, replace each alarm at least every 10 years. Also, alarms have labels showing when they were made. If you don't see a label, the alarm is old and must be replaced.
