Liners add insulation, privacy and room darkening, making these window treatments not only a “wow factor” but versatile and functional. Roman shades used throughout a room with large windows emphasize the beauty of these windows and are always the decorator's choice – you!
Custom made Roman blinds are ideal for large picture windows as they provide a view to the outside world and provide a stylish window treatment.
Vertical blinds
A Vertical blind does just the trick for a window that is either very tall or very wide. Giving you the power to block out the light or pull it back to open up your window completely, a vertical blind easily covers a large space.
Roman shades do not last as long as other options. This is because they are made of fabric and fabric can wear down. If you are looking for an option that will last you for years, then this is probably not the way to go. You want to consider this as you decide.
When fitting a Roman Blind outside a window recess, we recommend that the blind extends at least 7 – 10 cm to each side of the window recess and approximately 7 to 10cm (where possible) above and below, to ensure that the blind gives adequate coverage of the window when closed.
In summary. In summary, for Venetian, roller and vertical blinds, we would recommend they be hung from within the recess. However, Roman blinds would be better suited outside the recess, as they are able to let more light enter into the room.
Fitting Roman blinds inside the recess will reduce light considerably. When the blind is pulled up it will generally still take up about 20-30cm of your window. This is fine if you have a window with a long drop but if your window is less than 100cm, it will reduce the amount of light in the room.
Roman blinds are one of the most popular styles of blinds that we see across interior design trends time and time again. They work perfectly in modern and traditional homes. Roman blinds are one of our top sellers here at A1 Blinds, and we don't see them going out of fashion any time soon.
Roman Shades Are Very Much Still in Style
They come in a variety of colors and types, whether you want something intricate or something a little more neutral to work with your minimalist décor. The first thing to do is to look at the décor style you want.
Blinds that are very fancy or dark or that have intricate, detailed, large, or bold patterns will tend to have the opposite effect; for instance, Roman blinds tend to suit large spaces and help to make them look grand, but can swamp a small or even medium-sized room and soon make it look cramped or overwhelmed.
Opt for light colors when choosing your blinds or shades.
Light colors, on the other hand, are perfect for making the most of your room's square footage. In fact, for the best results, consider choosing shades with white or off-white fabric to maximize this effect.
The most common blind slat sizes are 2 inch slat blinds and 3 inch slat blinds. Wider slats mean that there's lesser space in-between each slat, giving your blinds a denser look. Meanwhile, thinner slats produce the opposite effect.
Bigger slats can effectively cover large windows, resulting in a balanced, proportionate visual appeal. Smaller slats on large windows would tend to look disproportionate and cluttered due to the number of slats required to cover the large window frame.
Roman blinds are great for: Creating a fuller, more luxurious look with interlining. Reducing light in bedrooms with blackout linings. Pairing with curtains for added warmth and style.
Yes; the more layers you have over a window, the better the insulation of the window will be. This effect will be particularly dramatic if your blind and curtains alike are both thermally insulated.
Made to measure curtains are generally the best solution as they will cover more of the window. Made to measure roman blinds will block some but not all of the light and our roller blind range include blackout options too. Take a look at our tips and tricks for a better blackout.
Roman Shades
With bold patterns and colors trending for 2023, this window treatment style is a great way to give your home an updated look. Typically made from a flat piece of fabric, folded in a graceful accordion style, roman shades create an elegant design statement.
Faux Wood Blinds
They are by far the most popular window covering because of their timeless look, practicality, and durability. Faux Wood Blinds are made with a PVC coating making them a great choice for high-humidity areas like a bathroom.
Roman blinds are a luxurious choice for covering a window. Made from a thicker fabric than roller blinds, they have rods sewn inside to create even folds. As you pull the cord, these blinds neatly unfold from the top of the window.
Roller shades are some of the most modern blinds you can get. They are very sleek and simple and they offer a really neat and streamlined look. Your best bet is to avoid patterns and prints and go for those core colours we mentioned above.
Allusion blinds are the fastest-growing window shading trend for 2023 because they provide seclusion, light control, and gentle, delicate beauty. More convenient than typical vertical blinds for patio doors and windows, these blinds aren't connected by chains, meaning you can walk through them with ease.
At a recent project we saw the customer specify that a ceiling mounted roman shade should have a artificial stop 4-ish inches from the top of the window (accomplished by a bead stop. see image below), so that in this case the inside mount roller shade bracket would remain covered.
Roman Blinds
If you often have your roman blinds in the open position, they can collect dust more quickly compared to other blind styles. In addition, roman blinds often feature soft fabrics, so you'll have to take extra care to make sure you don't tear or damage the fabric when cleaning.
This is for a number of reasons; roller blind fabrics are mostly cheaper, Roman blinds use twice as much fabric, if you include the lining, as a roller of the same size too, and the controls and working mechanism of a Roman blind are more complex as well.
