Don't Underestimate Large Tiles
We don't mean to suggest that you can't fit large tiles into the scheme of your small bath. Quite the contrary! Just like small, 1-inch tiles, large tiles can actually make the small space appear larger.
Large tiles can't flex over raised areas or dips in the subfloor like smaller tiles can. If the substrate is not perfectly level, using large tiles can result in lippage, which is when the edge of one tile is higher than an adjacent tile.
using 2×2 or 4×4 (inch) in a five-foot-squared space may seem appropriate. but small tile requires more grout joints — so that becomes the focus. it produces the undesirable effect of making the room look even smaller. alternatively, bigger tiles (8×8) expand the illusion of a larger space.
Another great option is to go for a more modern design, such as using large format tiles (12"x24"). These tile sizes are easier to install and provide a sleek look. It works well in larger bathrooms but it does wonders in small bathrooms too.
When space is limited – whether that's in a bathroom, kitchen or living room – the right choice of wall and floor tiles can make all the difference. Larger tiles will trick the eye and make a room look bigger,rather than smaller.
A large tile, such as 12x24”, usually requires a 3/16” grout line, so it's best to check the manufacturer's recommendations to see how small you can go. Pressed tiles with a 1/16" grout line.
As a rule of thumb, bigger tiles make the room seem bigger. A 16'' or 18'' tile will make the room feel larger than a 12” tile. To further enhance the sense of space, choose grout lines that match the color of the tiles. This eliminates the interruption between tiles, expanding the illusion of space.
We now have numerous sizes of tile available up to 24″ and sometimes even larger. One easy way a homeowner can make their room appear larger is to select a larger format tile. A 16″ or 18″ tile will generally give a room a larger feeling than a 12″ tile.
The shape of tiles can greatly improve a rooms appearance when it comes to size. For example, diagonal tiles are a sure way to make a narrow room appear wider. Additionally, when using dark tiles, consider the option of lightening other elements of the room.
Large format tiles are also more prone to cracking than smaller tiles. Because they are larger and heavier, they can be more difficult to handle and install. This means that if they are not installed properly, they can crack or become damaged over time.
One of the main disadvantages of large format wall tiles are that when used in the wrong space, they can make rooms seem smaller.

Tile Sizes & Shapes
The tried-and-true 12” x 12” tiles are still popular, but tiles are tending to be larger and larger.
While larger tiles may cover more area than small tiles, they are harder to install, requiring two people to carry and a solid technical understanding of tiling. These challenges mean they are more time-consuming to lay, so your tiler may charge extra for them.
12×24 tiles are an extremely popular large format tile size. However, working with them may be a little different than what you are used to.
Large-format porcelain tiles are a trend that can respond to the design needs of all types of applications: walls and floors, kitchen counters and worktops, both for indoor and outdoor use.
Tiles can pop up or become loose due to improper installation, uneven subfloor, moisture-related issues, weak adhesive, heavy foot traffic or structural movement.
Misconception #2: “Large format panels are more fragile and therefore, more likely to crack.” In reality: With proper installation, tiles that are larger in size are no more likely to crack than their smaller relatives.
Gray can make a room look bigger. A light gray can be a great pick in place of white; it will reflect natural light, but it looks less architectural and cool than white, which you might prefer.
Installing 12×24 Tile: Grouting
We used 1/4 inch spacers to achieve the perfect grout lines that you see here and I would definitely recommend using them, even if you think you're pretty comfortable with tiling. They only cost a few dollars for a few hundred of them and they make such a difference.
Second, grout lines that are too large in comparison to your tiles will take the focus away from your gorgeous flooring and leave you with a grid-like appearance. The wider the grout line, the more noticeable it will be when your installation is complete. It may also require a little more attention during cleaning.
The manufacture specifies 3/16 of an inch for grout spacing.
