Most keyless locks require premium alkaline batteries or lithium batteries of a specific voltage.
Your Smart Lock will give you low-battery warnings for multiple weeks before it loses power. However, if your Smart Lock dies entirely before you can replace your batteries, your key will still work. This is the same deadbolt key that you've always used - the Smart Lock doesn't change the key needed.

Schlage® keypad deadbolt requires a new 9-volt alkaline battery, installed on the interior side of the lock. Remove the inside cover of the lock using a Phillips screwdriver to remove two screws – one each on the top and bottom of the lock. Replace the battery.
