1. Surface Prep: Clean and sand your surface as needed to ensure it is smooth and ready for primer. 2. Apply Primer: With your chosen tools, apply the primer in even, controlled strokes or rolls, following the specific directions for your Kilz product.
Before applying the primer, stir it thoroughly to ensure an even consistency. If you are using a spray, make sure you shake the can well before use.
Myth #3: I Should Use Multiple Coats of Primer if I Can Still See a Stain or Previous Color. Not necessarily. If the previous color or stain is severe, you may need to apply more than one coat of primer, however, it's not necessary to keep applying coats until a stain or previous color disappears.

DO NOT THIN if using a roller or brush; however, if using a sprayer and thinning is required, thin with water at a ratio of no more than 8 oz. per gallon. DRY TIME @ 77°F and 50% RH: To Touch: 2 hours To Recoat: 4 hours Full Cure: 2 weeks Darker colors may require additional dry time between coats.
Just as is the case with paint, it's important to give the primer you use a good stir before applying it. Even if it says this isn't necessary on the can, it's still a good idea to grab a stick and give it a stir.
A common rule of thumb is to shake if there's citrus, stir if there's not. If the cocktail ingredients are mostly, or entirely, spirits (such as in a Manhattan, Martini or Negroni), you should stir. If a cocktail includes juice (such as in a Margarita, Daiquiri or Cosmo), you should shake.
The ingredients can and do separate—make sure to stir when you start to paint, and again every so often while painting. This ensures that the color and consistency of the finish will look great.
Overall, it is viewed as a cost-effective solution for priming and sealing surfaces before painting. Great product!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My project would not have turned out so well without using Kilz.

Prior to applying the primer, remove any mold or mildew with a proper remover or have it removed by a professional. In severe cases, the moldy substrates may need to be replaced. Once the surface is mold and mildew free, ensure it is clean and dry before applying primer.
The surface could have moisture trying to escape that is pushing the film up. It could also be a solvent that is on the surface.
Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Turn can upside down and continue shaking for one minute. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT STRIKE CAN.
Why stir then? Stirring merely chills and dilutes a cocktail whereas shaking additionally changes its texture. The ice, being violently shaken about inside the shaker, also aerates the drink with tiny air bubbles, which are held in suspension in the liquid, giving the cocktail a cloudy appearance.
For best results, you'll want to use the aerosol primer at room temperature. Once your area and surface are prepped, shake the primer can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle, and shake often during use.
Apply primer using a brush first to “cut in" around edges, then use a roller to fill in. That's how the pro's do it.
Depending on how strong or bold the previous color is, it may be necessary to apply more than one coat of primer. However, it is not necessary to over apply the primer with so many coats. As long as the primer applies uniformly over the previous color, then one or two coats should be sufficient.
