If you are replacing your entire door system, measurements will be based on the dimensions of the jamb (for interior doors) or the frame and sill (for exterior doors), rather than the dimensions of just the door slab as in the instructions above.
Door sizes themselves do not include the frame. However, manufacturers do provide information about the minimum rough opening dimensions that the door frame will fit in. Measure the rough opening, not the door.
Measure from one side to the other of the door panel, or the part that swings. To find the door height, measure from the top of the door panel to the bottom on the edge of the door. Measure the door thickness and door jamb width. For the door thickness, simply measure the edge of the door.
All frames are measured using the inside dimensions, height and width. So if you have a 30x40cm image, you need to order a 30x40cm frame. IIt's common to assume the dimensions relate to the outer edges. You can customise your perfect frame in our picture frame designer.
Standard Size for Exterior Doors
The standard size for an exterior door is 80 inches by 36 inches which is 6 ft, 8 inches by 3 ft.
A 36” x 80” pre-hung single door will use a rough opening of approximately 38-1/2” x 82-1/4” to fit.
While homes come in all shapes and styles, most entry doors follow some common measurements. The most typical standard door width is 36 inches, paired with a height of 80 inches. However, don't worry if your measurements differ — standard door sizes can range from: Width: 30 to 45 inches.
8x10 is another standard size, and the artwork of my 8.5x11 prints will all fit inside that opening.
Then add the width and height of the mat border to choose the right frame size. For example, an 8x10 picture with a one-inch border around all sides adds two inches of height and width, so the minimum frame size would need to be 10x12.
A: A 16x24 print will need a 16x24 frame. If you elect to utilize matting, you will need to add 4" to the height and width of the print.

However, the most common door size is 762mm wide and 1981mm high. When measuring for a new front door, keep in mind that the actual size of the aperture will be a little larger than the size of the door itself to account for the door frame.
Take measurements near the top, middle and bottom of the frame. Write down the largest of these measurements as the width of the door unit. Measure the depth of the frame from the inside edge to the outside edge, excluding brickmould and trim pieces.
Door frame
Side jambs, head jambs, and mulls are the parts that make up the frame. Residential door frames are most often made of wood but can also be made of aluminum, fiberglass, or a composite material.
For example, an 11x14 (which refers to the inside perimeter of the frame) used to frame an 8x10 image could be referred to as both an 8x10 frame or an 11x14, assuming the complete frame package contains the appropriate mat board. However, a frame that is 11×14 with no mat will always be an 11×14 frame.

Can you just buy an exterior door without the frame? Absolutely. All you have to do is purchase a slab door, which comes without a doorframe. This is ideal if your existing frame is in good condition but you still want to update or replace the door for aesthetic or functional reasons.
