Most smoke detector and fire alarm models will include a “silence” function. Manually pressing and holding the “silence” button on the smoke detector/fire alarm will cause it to stop sounding but not permanently turn it off.
Get a step ladder and carefully reach for the alarm. Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise.
Hush Mode: A Temporary Measure
While the chirps may be annoying, they're far less bothersome than having to wave a towel in front of the smoke alarm to get it to turn off every few minutes or just suffering with the loud blaring sound. In most cases, you can find the 'hush' button on the smoke detector's cover.
Even after the battery has died, the detector maintains a residual charge that will keep the chirp going for at least seven days. To get the device to stop chirping once the battery has been removed, you must drain this residual charge by holding the test button for 15 seconds.
How Long Does A Smoke Alarm Chirp Before It Stops Working? If you have a battery-powered smoke alarm, it will chirp for about a month before the battery dies. But if it's a hard-wired alarm with both AC power and a backup battery, it will keep chirping until you replace the backup battery.

Several common causes can explain why your hard-wired smoke detector is beeping: Low battery: Even hard-wired smoke alarms have backup batteries that need replacing periodically. For hardwired or wireless alarms, only hushing the initiating unit will silence all other interconnected alarms (see below on how to find the initiating unit). The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the “Test/Hush” button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately.

You can cancel a smoke alarm by answering the first monitoring center call, disarming on your Ring Alarm Keypad within the first 30 seconds, or from the Ring app. *Ring Alarm Keypad and In-app Fire Alarm response cancellation is not guaranteed and may still result in emergency response arriving at your location.
4. Find the test button. The most prominent button on a smoke alarm is the silence/hush button – to turn off the screeching in a false alarm. But you should also be able to easily find the test button on the front or face of the unit.
The smoke detector has one button, which is the reset button. Push and hold the reset button for 3 seconds to turn off the smoke detector. Because the smoke detectors are located on the ceiling, a chair or broom may be helpful to reach the reset button.

Covering the smoke detector with a dishcloth can work. You could also use a shower cap or a rubber band and plastic wrap to temporarily disable the smoke detector. Once again, it is important to remember to uncover it when you are finished cooking.
While your smoke alarm sounds, pressing the hush button will silence the smoke alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The hush feature is typically used where an alarm has been triggered accidently. This provides time to clear the current environment of fumes that triggered the alarm without the alert tone sounding.
Chirping in newer alarms is most commonly caused by a low battery.
