Note: Both detectors featured on this page require CR123A replacement batteries; your detector's battery may differ. To obtain a new battery, order from MyADT.com or visit an online or local retailer. ADT replacement battery orders ship to the contiguous U.S., only.
The smoke detector requires (2) CR123A 3-volt batteries.
For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad. If this does not work, please refer to your system user's manual for specific instructions.
Some smoke alarms are provided with both primary power that is hardwired in from the home's electrical system and a secondary battery backup. The secondary battery backup can be either a battery that needs to be replaced at least yearly, or it can be a 10-year sealed battery that does not need to be replaced.
You can press the Test/Silence button to silence the alarm. For Smoke alarms, the ADT Base LED ring blinks red and the number pad disappears.
The same thing may happen to hardwired alarms when you turn on the device's power. If the chirping continues, however, your detector might have a residual charge from the previous battery. Take out the battery, hold down the test button for 15 seconds, and replace the battery.
To disarm the system, enter your user code then press the [OFF] key. will also be sent. To stop the alarm sounding, simply disarm the system.
You should replace the battery in your hardwired smoke detector at least once a year or sooner if you hear the low battery chirp. Even sealed lithium battery units should be checked regularly.
One possibility is that the backup battery has died, even though it's connected to your system. Another reason could be the presence of dust inside the smoke detector, which can disrupt its functioning and result in the beeping sound.
When you order on MyADT, your QSP provides one free system battery per year. Additional system batteries cost $29.99.
As far as technical issues go — assuming your wiring isn't to blame — there are three main categories to troubleshoot when your ADT home alarm or smoke detectors start crying wolf: motion sensor issues, door or window (entryway) sensor issues, and glass-break sensor issues.
Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise. It should detach from the base so you can open the battery compartment in the back. Remove and replace the battery to see if it caused the issue.
Most systems will begin beeping or chirping as a result of a total power outage or failure to recharge the system backup battery. For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors need to be replaced about every 10 years. Whether you have a wired or a wireless system, replacing individual units as they expire is worth what may feel like an unnecessary cost. Just remember that doing so is an investment in the safety of your family and your home.
Battery issues are one of the most frequent reasons that hard-wired smoke alarms might beep. Though these alarms connect to your home's electrical system, they still use battery backup that kicks in during power outages. When the battery runs low or is completely dead, the detector emits a beeping sound to alert you.
Hardwired smoke detectors run on electricity, but they also have a backup battery for power outages. When you hear a hard-wired smoke detector beeping, it means you need to replace its battery.
However, if your hardwired smoke alarm doesn't have a battery backup, there are other steps that should be taken: Take the individual chirping unit down: After shutting off the circuit breaker, take the individual unit down, remove the battery backup (if it has one), then hold the test button down for 15 seconds.
On average, a 9V battery in a smoke detector will last between six months to a year, depending on several factors.
You'll likely notice a high-pitched chirping noise coming from your smoke alarm when it is time for the batteries to be changed. It is best to be proactive and change the batteries in your smoke detectors before that noise occurs.
Yes. In case of a power loss, the back-up battery will activate and will operate your alarm system for several hours. In the event your system battery is or becomes low, a low-battery signal will be sent to ADT's Customer Monitoring Center.
