Can I use Dawn to clean my jetted tub? Dawn Dishwashing Liquid is an excellent clean but not for a jetted tub. Using Dawn will create too many suds and make rinsing out the tub difficult.
Normal tub jet cleaning is accomplished without disassembly by filling with hot water 2'' above highest jet, adding 1/2 cup of Dawn dish detergent + 1 cup of distilled white vinegar. Alternately adding 3 dishwasher detergent packets.
I used Dawn dish soap because that is what I had on hand, but next time I will definitely try Cascade. The Kohler website recommends this cleaning concoction for their jetted tubs: add 2 teaspoons of low-foaming or powder automatic dishwasher detergent and 20 ounces of household bleach.
Generally speaking, it is safe to use gentle soaps and shampoos, as well as a low-foam bubble bath and aromatherapy bath oils. Avoid using harsh soaps, abrasive cleaners, and oil-based products in your whirlpool bath.
As a general rule of thumb, you cannot use oils, salts or bubbles in a water jet tub because the products can damage your water pump.
Those black flakes that you may have seen coming out of your Jacuzzi® bathtub jets are likely made of some combination of mold and mildew, bacteria from bathing, soap and oil residue, or other materials that have been left behind in the piping of the tub when it was last used.
But your hot tub is not intended to be used as a bubble bath. Adding soaps and suds of any kind could cause costly damage to your hot tub. Also, it's a good idea to shower before hot tubbing.
Many people who are considering purchasing a jetted tub have concerns about how sanitary they are and if they can be cleaned properly. The short answer is, when maintained properly, they are very sanitary and simple to clean thoroughly.
You can use pink Himalayan salts, Epsom salts and Dead Sea salts in whirlpool tubs. These are lovely salts to add to any whirlpool bath and will really help you to feel relaxed.
I fill the tub with hot water, turn the jets on, drop two dishwashing tablets, and let the jets run for 20 to 30 minutes. The tablets will loosen any greasy residue left behind from soap and body oils.
To start, grab that bottle of Dawn (or any other dish soap) from your kitchen sink and the broom stowed away in your closet. Dish soap is designed to cut through tough grease and food stains on our delicate dishware, but it will also disintegrate the dirty marks and soap scum lining your tub.
A mild detergent is typically a hand dish washing soap that only contains surfactants that dissolve dirt and grease as opposed to a soap that also contains builders, which would be classified as a moderately strong detergent.
In general, your Jacuzzi® bathtub jets should be cleaned at least a few times a year, or once a month if you're using it regularly.
Fill the tub with hot water to at least three inches above the height of the jets. Add two to four teaspoons of powdered dishwasher detergent (or another low-foaming disinfectant). For a deep clean, you can also add up to one-half cup of bleach. Run the jets for 15 minutes, and then turn off and drain the bathtub.
Don't Get Bubbly
Bubble bath plus hot tub jets equal a foamy, frothy mess. Keep bubble suds, bath lotions, soaps, shampoos, detergents, and other foam-causing concoctions out of your hot tub. It's also best to use a non-foaming algaecide to keep frothy conditions to a minimum.
For easy cleaning and maintenance, mix some vinegar in the warm water after you are done soaking in the bathtub. Leave it for a while and run the jets for 10 to 15 minutes to make sure it gets everywhere. It's a simple way to maintain your jet tub, without wasting extra water or putting in too much effort.
Epsom salt likely won't clog your drain. But it will clog if the salt does not dissolve. Any material that enters your drain which cannot breakdown will accumulate.
Answer. The black flakes are mold and mildew, bacteria from human skin, oils, soaps, and other junk (use your imagination) that have been allowed to spawn in residual water left behind within the piping from the last time the unit was used.
As a general rule of thumb, you shouldn't add bubble bath to a jetted bathtub, as you don't want to risk clogging the jets, pumps, or motor. However, this doesn't mean you can't find safe alternatives.
A good rule of thumb for Jacuzzi usage is to soak for no more than 15-30 minutes. This is a period within which you can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of the hot water without overwhelming your system.
Shell Surface Care
For normal cleaning of a dry spa, use a mild, diluted, dishwashing soap, window cleaner, or specific spa surface cleaning products recommended by your local authorized dealer.
This is where dish soap comes into play. Its potent formula acts as an effective solvent, dissolving the residues that tarnish the appearance of your bathtub, making it the ideal candidate for your nighttime cleaning ritual.
Showering before use
You should also shower after using a hot tub to reduce the risk of skin irritation from water chemicals. This is important regardless of whether you have sensitive skin or not. Allowing chemicals to sit on the skin may cause irritation.
