Decks and other permanent structures require deck supports and footings made from structural strength concrete mix. NOTE: it is important to check local building codes for construction requirements in your area; these requirements will include minimum diameter and minimum depth of the footings.
C25 standardised mix concrete or ST2 Concrete is widely versatile and used in numerous commercial and domestic projects. It is commonly used for footings and foundations, including mass concrete fill, trench fill and reinforced fill, as well as general groundworks.
Can I use Quikrete for footings? Yes, in fact, I recommend using Quikrete Fast-Setting concrete mix for footings. Because you can pour it in dry and add water later without needing to mix, it makes things much simpler.
Cement is a powder that by itself would not work well for pouring a sidewalk or a swimming pool. It's just one ingredient used in the recipe for concrete.

Required Footing Sizes
In most cases, a house should have a minimum footing of 12 inches wide by 12 inches deep, with foundations that are 8 to 10 inches thick. This should be enough to support house weight and resist lateral soil and water pressure.
Concrete is much stronger than cement. When the concrete has cured properly, it is an extremely hard material. Cement on the other hand, has a tendency to crack if it is used on its own.
You can pour concrete on top of an existing slab as long as it's still in reasonably good condition and structurally sound. This means the concrete should be free of cracks, buckling, and breaks. If you notice any small cracks or minor issues, it's in your best interest to repair them before you pour the new concrete.
To improve the working properties and durability of the concrete and mortar, you can add extra materials. These materials could be lime, plasticiser or other building chemicals. It's worth noting that you can't use cement alone.
Rapid Set Concrete is not designed for use in any structural application. Extreme temperatures will impact set time of Rapid Set Concrete.
In addition to being cheaper to install the Quikrete system is also significantly stronger than traditional concrete. Other strength benefits of the Quikrete system are that it sets up much faster (a few hours) and has minimal dust.
A minimum of 12”inches deep for all footings and the width will be determined by the amount of stories, 12” inches for a single story, 15” inches for a two story and 23” inches for a three story. This is based on a soil bearing capacity of 1500(psf).

If you are fixing a fence post or patching a 2'x2' area on your driveway, hand mixing a few bags of concrete is a great option.
A concrete mix of 1 part cement : 2 parts sand : 4 parts coarse aggregate (by volume) should be used for footings. Concrete must be placed within half an hour of mixing. Brickwork – Place your concrete into your trench. Work the concrete into awkward places and corners using a shovel.
Bonding restrictions: Concrete is composed of sand and aggregates held together with cement. How thin can you pour concrete over concrete? Your new layer needs to be at least 2 inches thick. If it's any thinner than that, it'll easily crack under pressure and won't adequately bond to your surface.
You can add more Portland cement to bagged concrete to make it stronger. You can also add some hydrated lime. To make the strongest concrete, the sand should be sourced from volcanic lava that has a high silica content.
What lasts longer: concrete or cement? Concrete lasts much longer than cement, as it can withstand heavy loads and harsh weather conditions. Concrete can last for over 100 years under most conditions.
Ready mixed concrete is designed to be as easy to use as possible, while minimising waste. Simply add water to your ready mixed concrete, mix to the necessary consistency and it is ready to use. Ready mixed concrete has the same strength and usability as other options, but has the added benefit of saving you time.
The ideal concrete psi for a given project depends on various factors, but the bare minimum for any project usually starts around 2,500 to 3,000 psi. Each concrete structure has a normally acceptable psi range. Concrete footings and slabs on grade typically require a concrete of 3,500 to 4,000 psi.
The depth of concrete you need will depend on the use: footings for extensions, for example, will need to be at least 200mm thick, while around 100mm should be deep enough for a shed base.
Fast-setting concrete is ideal for setting posts because there's no mixing—you simply pour the dry concrete from the bag right into the hole, then add water.
