Yes. “Adding too much baking soda to a pool will cause the alkalinity to rise,” Vernon says. Anything above 120 ppm is too high. And over-alkaline water, he says, “can create scale build-up and cloudy water.”
However, adding too much baking soda might also raise the PH level of your pool to an undesired stage (alkaline).
A rule of thumb is 1.5 lbs. of baking soda per 10,000 gallons of water will raise alkalinity by about 10 ppm. If your pool's pH tested below 7.2, add 3-4 pounds of baking soda.
You will need to wait 6 hours to let the baking soda thoroughly dissolve into the pool water. However, you can often speed up the process by turning on the pool's circulation system.

Can baking soda replace chlorine in a swimming pool? Nope. Baking soda is a very similar composition to what is known as soda ash. Soda ash is used to raise pH in a swimming pool.
Be mindful of this, and adjust alkalinity first. Then, re-test pH and adjust accordingly. If you do add soda ash and it clouds up the pool, either it was added too fast, or it was simply too much. This is why pre-dilution is a good idea.

When added to chlorinated water, baking soda increases the pH level so other chemicals can react faster. So, directly, it doesn't reduce bromine or chlorine levels in a hot tub, but it helps other chemicals neutralize it.

If the pH gets higher than 7.8, the water is becoming too alkaline. When water is too alkaline, it reduces the effectiveness of chlorine — the pool chemical that kills pathogens. Water with a pH that's too high also can cause skin rashes, cloudy water and scaling on pool equipment.

While it's important to shock your pool on a regular basis, chlorine-based pool shocks are highly alkaline and will raise pH and therefore alkalinity. So you may notice higher pH and total alkalinity after shocking your water.

How long does it take for a cloudy pool to clear? Depending on how cloudy your water is, it may take 2-3 days for your water to clear. If you're using a clarifier, you'll need to run your filter 24/7, keep your water chemistry balanced, and add the proper amount of water clarifier every other day until it's clear.
White Vinegar
It's calcium buildup, and while it doesn't damage your pool or the water, it doesn't look great, either. Just like you run vinegar through your coffee pot to get rid of calcium buildup, white vinegar can wipe away this eyesore in your pool.
Chlorine issues often cause hazy-looking water. Adding a recommended dose of pool shock to your pool can clear it right up. Poor circulation or filtration can contribute to water clarity issues. Make sure your pump and filter are working properly.
