Mix one cup of cider vinegar with a gallon of hot water. Use a damp mop to apply to the floor, rinsing the mop frequently with clean, hot water from another bucket or your sink. For extra cleaning power, add a few drops of liquid dishwashing soap to the water and vinegar mixture.
While vinyl plank flooring is water-resistant, too much water can soak in and cause bubbling, warping or discoloration. If the mop is dripping wet, it'll be too much moisture for the planks. Lightly mist the mop with a spray bottle filled with water, and reapply as needed.
Commercial Cleaners to Use on Vinyl Floors
Some commercial cleaners are specially designed for vinyl floors. These include Pine-Sol Multi-Surface Cleaner, Pledge Multisurface Floor Cleaner, and Armstrong's Once 'n Done No-Rinse Floor Cleaner.
One essential tip for maintaining your luxury vinyl floor is not to mop too often. Once a week or twice a month is plenty.
You can wet mop LVP flooring with warm water, avoid over soaking the floor. If you want to use a wet mop, a microfiber flip mop or spin mop are your safest options. Make sure to use a fresh cleaning pad, not the same one you used for dusting! Don't use a sponge mop with an abrasive scratch pad.
Dip a microfiber mop into your cleaning solution and wring it out until it's barely damp. Using a dripping mop can allow water to work its way into seams, cracks, and edges in your flooring and cause damage. Keep your mop as clean as possible with frequent rinsing and remember to wring it out thoroughly each time.
Swiffer is designed not to leave a residue and should provide a great clean on virtually any floor in your home. For best results, make sure the product is suitable for your floor. Do not use Swiffer Wet cloths or the Swiffer WetJet on unfinished, oiled or waxed wooden floors, non-sealed tiles, or carpet.
Overall, microfiber mops have more pros than Swiffer mops. Microfiber mops can be used as a two-in-one to both sweep and mop at the same time. However, a Swiffer mop can typically only clean after the sweeping has already been done.

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dirt & grit that can scratch the floor and wipe up all spills promptly and thoroughly with a damp cloth or mop, washing with a mild detergent when needed. Do: Polish Your Vinyl Flooring Regularly. Over time, your vinyl floor can start to look drab or dull. Add a bit of baking soda to your regular floor cleaner to help keep the vinyl fresh, smooth, and shiny.
Third, area rugs and rug pads with a rubber or latex backing should not be used on top of luxury vinyl plank flooring. These types of area rugs and rug pads can actually damage your new floor as they have the potential to cause permanent markings on the floor where it has been placed over time.
When it comes to dropped cigarettes, hot pans or dishes, or curling irons, luxury vinyl will not hold up. This kind of extreme heat can and will damage these floors. It is also important not to attempt using a steam cleaner on these materials either to void the warranty and damage the floors.
Pine-Sol Multi-Surface Cleaner – Yes, Pine Sol on vinyl floors is a fine option; however, use sparingly with water. Do not oversaturate your vinyl floors with too much water, use just enough to disinfect the floors.
