Pour the broth into a Ziplock bag, leaving some space at the top for expansion during freezing. 3. Seal the bag tightly, removing any excess air to prevent freezer burn.
You can pour the stock into a freezer bag, or an airtight container. Be careful storing it in glass jars because when liquid freezing it will expand. When you are ready to use, you can either let it defrost in the fridge or add the frozen portions directly to a pot and heat until melted and warmed through.
I generally use quart-sized Ziploc freezer bags. Don't overfill the bags: Liquids expand as they freeze, so be sure to leave a little extra room to account for this. In a quart-sized bag, I usually put only two to three cups of food. In gallon-sized bags, I put about three quarts (12 cups) or so.
Mason jars and other glass containers
I have various sizes that I use and it works really well for me and I like the fact they are reusable and are environmentally friendly, no BPA issues, and keep the cost down over time. I have amassed a good collection from Walmart and Goodwill.
Plastic bags are perfectly safe, but you may get some freezer burn which will affect quality, but if you get most of the air out it will help prevent that. You can dunk the bag in a bowl of water to force air out as a sort of gheto vacuum sealing.
For a quart-size container, that means you are only pouring in 3 – 3 1/2 cups of liquid. To freeze in a Ziploc bag, open up the bag in a medium pot or bowl and then pour in the stock (remember to fill only three-fourths full.) The pot will allow you to have two hands free. Zip closed and freeze flat.

Freeze: Homemade chicken broth will keep for up to six months in the freezer, and store-bought broth will last for four months. There are a few tricks to freezing broth. First, allow it to cool completely before transferring it to the freezer.
You DO NOT want to use regular mouth pints or wide mouth quarts, because when food freezes it expands and the tapered sides and shoulders will not allow the food to expand UP. Instead, the food will expand OUT and that will cause the mason jar to crack.
Storing the Stock: Finished stock can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze or can it. To freeze stock, place it in a plastic freezer container or a wide-mouth mason jar. Leave some space at the top of the container to allow for expansion when frozen.
Ziploc® brand bags made with polyethylene are a great choice for food storage, but should not be used for sous vide cooking (boiling in water) as the softening point is 230°F and boiling point for water is 212°F. Are Ziploc® brand bags, Ziploc® paper bags and Ziploc Endurables® recyclable?
THE BOTTOM LINE For storing food in the freezer, use freezer bags because they are thicker and thus better at keeping moisture in and odor out. For general storage, freezer bags offer extra protection but regular storage bags are slightly less expensive.
Stock is generally made from bones, and broth is generally made from flesh. In both cases, they are often supported with aromatic vegetables, but in the case of stock, left unseasoned for maximum flexibility in recipes, whereas broth will usually contain at least salt and pepper.
Regular mouth jars are not recommended for freezing because of the shoulders. As we know, when liquid freezes it expands. Therefore it is critical that enough headspace is available to allow for this expansion. However, even leaving plenty of headspace the regular mouth jars can crack.
Go for glass or something reusable like silicone. Do you need an affordable and easy-to-store option? Plastic deli-style containers are a great choice available in a variety of sizes. Plastic, glass, and silicone are all suitable for freezing soup, though glass and silicone will likely last longer.
How Long Can You Put a Glass in the Freezer? According to everything that we have said up to this point, you can leave an empty glass in the freezer for as long as you need. You should probably make sure that the glasses are not a subject of a sudden temperature change.
Once opened, broth should be stored in the fridge. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, both homemade and store-bought chicken broth can last three to four days in the refrigerator.
Use the Right Gear: You must use containers, bags and wraps designed for the freezer. These are thick enough to keep moisture in and freezer odors out. Even when you double up regular sandwich bags or plastic wrap, they are simply not thick enough to do the job.
