Freezers typically just use LED light bulbs (or more likelely LED strips) which works just as well at room temperature as it does in freezing temperatures.

Force Bulbs That Need Chilling
Pot the bulbs in any well-draining potting mix, water them, and set them aside in a cool but not freezing dark spot for the required minimum time (see below), then bring them into warmth and light in the house. The bulbs think spring has arrived and quickly sprout and flower.
LEDs (like incandescent) turn on instantly and don't need time to warm up to reach full brightness. LEDs don't contain mercury, so they are environmentally friendly and safe to use in walk-in coolers and freezers.
Back in the days before frost-free freezers, a freezer light would have quickly become covered up by ice crystals, rendering it relatively useless. Since that time, so the story goes, people have become so used to having no light in their freezer, manufacturers didn't see the point in adding one (see Theory 2).
The most common reasons your Whirlpool freezer light is not working are a malfunctioning electronic control board, broken LED light assembly or a bad power supply board.
The general rule of thumb is a moderate freeze is ok for bulbs in bloom as long as temperatures recover to near normal within 48 hours. Hyacinths are slightly less hardy. They may appear a bit wilted after a freeze and their blooms may brown a bit around the edges.
It all comes down to cost/benefit and features. While it's not terribly expensive to add a light, sealed fixture, switch, wiring, etc. relative to the cost of the whole unit, it does cost something and manufacturers want to save every dollar they can in the cost of manufacturing their product.
Fridge light bulbs are typically 40- or 60-watt or T8 with an intermediate base. Microwave ovens often require a 25-watt T7 microwave light bulb. Dryers often use a 10-watt, 120-volt C7 bulb.
