Yes, Craftsman and DeWalt are Owned by Stanley Black & Decker. Stanley Black & Decker (SBD) turned heads when it bought Craftsman Tools in 2017 after Sears closed 235 stores in 2015.
If you're wondering “is Craftsman a good brand?” the answer is a pretty simple “yes”. While they might not be quite as reputable as other brands like DeWalt, Mikita, or Milwaukee – their quality is similar to Kobalt tools.
Are DeWalt and Craftsman batteries interchangeable? No, the voltage might be the same but the connection are all different. There are adapters available but they are a little pricey, about 25 dollars.
"You might even see professional contractors walking out with a Craftsman," Berendsohn says, noting that its tools sometimes perform as well as their professional-grade competitors in Popular Mechanics tests.
Reliable sets. Professional grade. Count on V-Series™ wrenches to deliver mechanic-level performance.
Craftsman is a line of tools, lawn and garden equipment, and work wear. Originally a house brand established by Sears, the brand is now owned by Stanley Black & Decker.
The compatibility of the battery depends on the voltage. Both the battery and tool must operate on the same voltage. Flexvolt batteries are an exception.
One, a whole bunch of the top power tool brands — including DeWalt, Black & Decker, Craftsman, Porter-Cable and more — are all owned by the same company, Stanley Black & Decker. Those 20-volt lithium-ion battery cartridges you stick into your drill, circular saw and weed whacker are all pretty much the same thing.
However, the Craftsman brand has declined in quality significantly over the last 40 years simply because of how Sears managed the brand. They shifted more of their tool purchasing to China. The went to other firms such as Poulan to manufacture their weed walkers, leaf blowers and chain saws.

Overall Winner: Kobalt
Yes, Craftsman is more widely available, but Kobalt offers excellent quality, which is most evident in their tool kit line. Kobalt also offers a better lifetime warranty, because it's available for most of their products rather than just hand tools.
Kobalt and DeWalt both manufacture quality tools, but overall DeWalt's tools are more powerful, more versatile, more efficient, and more durable. And since they offer so much, they're more expensive. Kobalt tools are ideal for individuals who do DIY projects here and there but don't require professional-grade tools.
DeWalt tools are made by Stanley Black & Decker (SBD), a multinational corporation worth $7.5 billion. DeWalt manufactures its tools under SBD.
XR Stands for eXtreme Runtime. ( may also be called extended runtime) If it's stamped on the batteries: this is our claim that these batteries last longer than our non-XR versions. They are the higher amp hour batteries and have a larger fuel tank. If it is stamped on the tool: this means that the tool is brushless.
In fact, it is better for the battery to leave it in the charger to be sure it goes through Equalization and Maintenance Modes. One of the benefits of DEWALT XRP™ Lithium Ion batteries is that they have limited self discharge.
Different Battery Systems
DeWalt 20V MAX and DeWalt 20V/60V MAX FLEXVOLT batteries are used to power DeWalt 20V MAX tools and are not compatible with the Milwaukee M18 battery system - nor are their battery chargers compatible.
Are power tool batteries interchangeable? No. Each brand of cordless power tools has designated battery platforms specific to their line of tools with different voltages. Now, it may be possible to interchange batteries between the same brand and voltage even with different ampere-hours.
Craftsman, like many other power tool manufacturers, has a line of cordless tools that operate on a specific voltage platform, in this case, 20V. As long as the tools and batteries are part of the same Craftsman 20V system, the batteries should be interchangeable.
You can use these lithium-ion batteries with all Craftsman sets (19.2 volt sets, not the 18 volt ones) that come with the Ni-Cad batteries because the protruding electrical connections are the same.
MADE IN
We're proud to continue expanding our U.S. manufacturing footprint with our factory in Fort Mill, South Carolina. There, our workers make select V20* power tools with global materials and take pride knowing they're part of the CRAFTSMAN family.
It depends which craftsman tools, and even so, they could be made in a variety of different countries. Though it would be fair to say that China take up a large percentage of the manufacturing of these craftsman tools.
