Above Ground Pool Sizes
Most above ground pools are offered in two different shapes - round and oval. Smaller, more conservative pools are 12 to 18 feet in diameter while larger pools can go up to 33 feet round or 21x41 feet in the oval shape.
The deepest above-ground pool available is the Intex 36-Foot by 16-Foot by 52-Inch Above-Ground Pool. The four-foot depth may not seem like a lot, but in the world of above-ground pools, it's tough to find deeper floors.
Wall Height
You typically fill a pool 4 inches from the top and have sand on the bottom so those pools actually held 3'6” of water. Many people wished they were deeper so the manufacturers started making 52 inch tall pools so that they would hold nearly 4 feet of water at 3' 10”.
Many pool owners, who want the experience of deeper water, opt for a dish-type dig in the center of the pool. The standard vinyl liner will typically allow for an added depth of 3-4 inches using this procedure. However, an "expandable" liner can be obtained which will accommodate a pool depth of up to six feet.
The Pool's Size and Purpose
For a lap pool, the average size is about 10 feet wide and 50 feet long, which is pretty large. However, the average size for a smaller in-ground pool can range from 10 feet by 20 feet, and a larger pool is about 20 feet by 40 feet.
There are primarily 3 different above ground pool wall heights available on the market today. They are 48", 52" and 54" walls with the 54" above ground pool being the tallest and newest design of the three. All above ground pool models are available in both round and oval shapes.
For a family of 8 people, a pool size of 18 by 36 feet is adequate. Even if you all decide to swim at the same time, there will be enough space for everyone. A rectangular shape is the best choice for this size of the pool. If there are six or less in your family, a pool size of 16 by 32 feet will be sufficient.
Oval pools range in size from 8'x12′ to 21'x43′. Popular sizes include 12'x24′, 15'x24′, 15'x30′, 18'x33′ and 18'x40′, along with 20 other sizes to choose from. Round pools range in size from 12-feet to 33-feet diameter, increasing in size by 3-foot increments.
An above-ground pool is, by far, the least-expensive option for a pool. Kids love them, and built-in fencing and locking gate options make them safe as long as an adult monitors them. The main disadvantage of an above-ground pool is that it generally adds no value to your home.
We recommend a minimum of 30 feet in length to provide enough space for lap swimming and exercise. The swim lane is important, but so is the depth and other features.
10 x 20 is considered a small in-ground pool, while a 20 x 40-foot pool is on the larger side of things.
Olympic size pools measure: 50 metres long, 25 metres wide, and a minimum of 2 metres deep. 660,430 gallons of water.
A 12x24 foot pool has a surface area that covers 288 feet, so it should be big enough for your needs based on this rough calculation.
This will depend on the size of your yard and the size of the pool that you want. For example, you should probably have a minimum of 1,200 square feet of space to install a small inground pool that's around 12 feet by 24 feet (this includes around ten feet on all sides to account for setbacks and patio).
A saltwater pool is more expensive than a traditional pool because it requires a higher initial investment. Compared to chlorinated pools, a saltwater pools system is more complex. Both minor and major repairs will call for the expertise of a licensed (and specialized) technician.
Resale Value
A pool can increase not only your social worth but also the value of your home. However, the increase is probably not as much as you think. According to HouseLogic, there's no real guarantee that you'll make your money back. In fact, adding a swimming pool may only increase your home's value by 7%.
A standard inground swimming pool or play pool is a 75ft perimeter pool, which means it is 75 feet around the pools edge. While all of our pools are custom built, a play pool is typically a rectangular pool that is 28ft long x 14ft wide, or a freeform design.
Although not a limit, but used as a guideline, it is common to have no more than 1 swimmer per 15 square feet. If you have a 24-foot round pool you will be able to have roughly 30 swimmers.
A rectangular 7m or 8m is the most common size families with up to 4 kids go for and is plenty big enough. If the kids have flown the coop, think of future grandkids who will love a shallow end at first and deep end as they grow older. Keep in mind the future buyer of your home should you sell.
However, on average, you're looking at about $2,800 on an above ground pool and about $35,000 on an inground pool as the base. So if you're looking at cost alone, installing an above ground pool is much, much cheaper. Price isn't the only thing you have to consider when shopping for a pool, though.
A high-quality above ground pool from Valley Pool & Spa should last between 10 and 20 years depending on how well you care for it. However, your pool liner will not last as long as your pool.
